Shipping heavy items by pallet. Leave out checkout delivery.

I am currently building a store for a client where some of the products can be shipped via normal parcel delivery or local collection; others are heavy and bulky and require delivery via pallet. For pallet delivery items, we need to leave out the checkout delivery and replace it with a note that shipping will be arranged offline - the reason is that (1) there is a relationship-building opportunity (2) shipping rates vary depending on location and which company can fulfil soonest. 

The further complication is some buyers may buy some items which are deliverable normally and some that are pallet delivery.

Are there any apps or shipping providers that can provide this functionality. Alternatively, is there a way we can split out bulky items from the shipping calculations for smaller items?

Freightcom/ClickShip have live pallet rates .

This might be too late now, but I thought to post a reply incase someone else still looking to resolve this on Shopify. 

Fare Freight is exactly what you need, we have customers in Australia who are shipping Pallets and need their customers to see live rate, without underquoting or overquoting. Which in return increase sales and help understand abundant carts further more. 

we where able to get them 100% the same rate as the shipping broker charges. 

see below, on left shipping broker cost, on right is what Shopify customers see at checkout

The App Allow you to Add Products Dimensions and package type (you could do it in bulk too)

Add your own shipping brokers/Companies details to get connected

Note, to get checkout question need to be on Shopify Plus, however if that's not the case for your items then it won't be an issue.
