I have several shipping options. Two are pick-up (free at different locations) and others are pay (USPS). The free options always appear by default when a purchase is made and customers aren't paying attention and leaving it free. Is there a way to change the order of my shipping options? Can I put free at the bottom?

It's been over a year since this thread started and still no indication from Shopify that this simple feature will be implemented. It would be very nice to have transparency over the upcoming feature list so the community doesn't have to keep asking "when" and poor Peter doesn't have to provide the same palm off reply. A feature board in the forums here would be a simple place to start. Feature voting could be added to allow both the community and shopify to see what is most popular.

Anyhow, it would seem that I am just another shopify user patiently awaiting one of the many simple features to be rolled out.

How is this still an issue? It's embarrassing having to go back to a customer and say "hey, I need you to go back in and pay for shipping on this separate link." I cannot afford to eat the shipping costs when a customer doesnt realize that local pickup is defaulted.

Agreed. They are essentially forcing small businesses to pay up and use Shopify Plus for this basic fix. Wrong. Wrong. Wrong.

You guys do realise that there is a 'free click and collect' option as well as a free local delivery (define your radius for delivery) and conditional free delivery (over £25 for me)?

Check the options and look at help.

Just to catch up and bearing in mind the issues that are addressed in this post, what outstanding issues are there? Please list below 🙂

Yep, aware of it. And it would be ideal for us. But it does not work with our newly integrated POS app. Not Shopify's problem, I know, but would be great to have some control over Shipping methods so we can make life easier for our customers and us.

I am surprised and somewhat amused that, in logging on to reply, I have entered my username and password ... AND biometric (fingerprint on my phone) ... AND Two factor authentication ... while I don't on the app itself 🙄

I have seen this request from 2014 in forum and gave up myself few years ago. Really wondering why shopify didn't put that after 6 years of people asking.

I just read through the 13 pages of requests for this functionality to be added, my question is why hasn't it been added to date? We are having the same issue on our store and need this change. Please advise.

Is this still being considered? This is a major issue for us. Our Free Pick Up is appearing first, as the default, and customers aren't paying attention and checking out with this. Then they email us two weeks later asking why their order hasn't shipped. PLEASE correct this. We need to be able to put our $8 Flat Rate shipping option first, then our Pick Up option second. It's bonkers that the system won't allow us control of this.

We have been asking for this very simple fix for YEARS.  This particular post is only 8 months old and there have been many additional Shopify customers ask for it.  What is the hold up?  And (Shopify) don't even reply telling me that you will send this message along for further review, because we both know that the review does not happen.  This truly is a simple fix to force the customer to choose a shipping option with no default.

We had this issue for a very long time, customers were choosing the Store Pickup option as it was the first on the shipping list due to $0.00 price.
After countless hours we picked up on a few things that were causing it and managed to fix the issue.

1. Store Pickup was being selected as default for customers who weren't paying attention (well that's what we thought). Turns out the PayPal Express button on the first step of our checkout page was causing our customers to skip a step where they can change the shipping option.
The fix was to delete the code (simple google search will find instructions).

2. We installed an app called  Store Pickup Click and Collect by CreativeR, this app puts a store pickup option at your cart page, it sorts customers who actually want to pickup and those who don't and offers shipping accordingly.

This doesn't solve the issue that we don't want wholesale customers to be offered our free shipping option!!! But did help quite a lot with the above issues.

Is this facility NOT being offered so that SHOPIFY can profit from the app developers providing this service at a fee?

 

My preference is to NOT have a default shipping option and require customers to actively select. This is an easy fix!!

CFFATHOME: It's not difficult fix. The only reason that I can see why Shopify  wont implement this change is because they receive revenue from the app developers.

This has become a huge issue for us, to the extent that we're going to have to remove the Pickup option and do a shipping refund if they want to pick up. What makes is worse is that, for those customers that I contact and do want to change it to shipping, you can't edit the shipping once the order has been placed!! So I have to add an additional item onto the order, after I've calculated the shipping cost - so much more complicated and clumsy if they'd just give us both options to begin with!

2 years and 12 pages worth of requests for a feature to re-order shipping options and it still isn't a thing...and it's the most basic thing... You guys either need to allow us to re-order shipping options, require a zip code to be put in before shipping options are given (I'm tired of people in another state picking the free local pick up option) or give us the option to remove the address from the local pick up option. As an at home business, I don't want my home address public for all to see for safety reasons. I'm not sure why safety hasn't ever been thought of for this.

 

Again, this is a BASIC thing that has been asked for for YEARS at this point. It blows my mind that nothing has been done about it yet.

As so many others have said, this is a very basic feature that has been requested by huge numbers of store owners with no action from Shopify. The claims that this has been submitted as a feature request and reviewed daily are simply not believable at this point and this is an extremely poor way for Shopify to treat it's customers.

The Shopify reps who occasionally monitor these pages until they get overwhelmed by complaints and then stop responding have no authority and no real knowledge of the inner working of Shopify so it's time for someone beyond a glorified door greeter to weigh in here and explain to all of us why Shopify has not made this available and will never do so.

The false hope being dangled that this is supposedly being considered is not acceptable.

Just this week I had to contact 3 customers that selected the free option because it is the default.  They were understanding and two used Venmo and one PayPal to pay the difference.  It is very embarrassing and way non professional.

I had hoped they would address this with the new updates.

We are likely to lose two clients from Shopify due to this, we have custom shipping API's for them but as with others the wrong options are often selected.

They should be displayed in the order they are sent.

Shopify never consider customers wishes, they assume they know best.

Shame, but this thread proves no one listens.

Like so many others, I have been asking for this for years. We offer free slower shipping and faster paid shipping. Customers get mad at us every year when they find out they didn't pay attention and just selected the first, free, option and their item won't arrive on time. Shopify needs to fix this!

A very basic feature that's available in WooCommerce and most other platforms.

Not having the ability to order shipping options is detrimental to business and generates customer dissatisfaction.

 

I don't see this as a "feature request" but more of a bug fix. The idea that the cheapest option should always be selected is not necessarily good. If we could even just order them by when they are created and erase them / recreate them to select the ordering, that would be an improvement. There's no reason for Shopify to override our selected ordering.

I agree with all these posts! I also need to be able to reorder the shipping rates. I like to include pick up but people accidentally choose this as default. I can’t do the pick up option on the website as I don’t want my address displayed on the website!

Two and a half years of BS and nothing to show. Looks like the Shopify rep ran out of hot air. I understand they want a private dev to come up with an app and charge $10 a month for its usage... that seems to be the way that features go. At the very least organize it so highest price is first. I think everyone can at least work with that.

Dear Shopify, give me one of two options. Allow access to the stylesheet and I'll use absolute positioning to place them in the order I need them. Or simply reverse your script so its listed highest to lowest. Simple. 

 

Platitudes about adding it to some 'list' isn't gonna get the job done. This issue causes considerable misery for small business owners in the form of time, irritated clients, and ultimately, money.

Revive - this is NOT a fix to the underlying issue, but it will minimize
the amount you have to follow up with people. If your free ship option is
just for local pickup, you can make a separate shipping setup just for your
state and only include the free option there! That's what we do -- and
even though we still have to follow up with people within the state (it's
TX so it's big haha) that accidentally pick the option, at least it's just
isolated to orders from inside the state!

Hey Erin! Can you explain how to do this? I tried to do another shipping zone just to our state with the free pick up options but it won't show up at checkout. The only shipping options that show up at checkout are the ones I add under the "general shipping rates" option. None of the added custom shipping rates I put in there will show up at checkout.
