How on earth does it make sense for Shopify to only calculate shipping based on 1 default package. 

I need to send 322 different products in my store through FedEx, all of them are a different shape and size. Each product comes in its own box size. Every other person on this planet calculates shipping rates at checkout by the product's (or packages) dimensions and the product's weight. However, it appears to me now that Shopify doesn't allow us to add dimensions to products, OR assign packages to products. I figured maybe I could make multiple different shipping profiles and assign the packages that way, but no, Shopify doesn't even allow us to assign a package to a shipping profile. I can't understand how they would allow us to add multiple packages, when they have no use. Now I am going to be forced to substantially overcharge all my customers on shipping because I have to set my default package as the largest box I send out. 

To make matters worse, speaking with Shopify support about this matter has been an absolute nightmare. Several different agents have just given me incorrect information repetitively. They'll try to make it seem like Shopify does use the product dimension, in fact several agents even tried to tell me that "on the product page, you can add the product's dimensions", which as we know is not correct. When I tell them that's not true, then they say "you can assign the package to the shipping profile" which is also not true. I've even been told that when creating a package, I can "choose which products are assigned to the package", which once again, is incorrect. One agent ended our discussion by saying "it seems like your approach requires a special tailored solution", how is this a tailored special situation???

This has been the most surprising week trying to work through this issue, I have lost faith in Shopify support. If I had a store that only sold 1 kind of product, this wouldn't be an issue, however since I sell many different kinds of products, now I can't charge accurate shipping prices. Does anyone have a solution?

You are right. Shopify does not natively support assigning product dimensions for shipping calculations, and although it lets you add multiple packages, only one of them to be used by default. • Assign Product Dimensions – Add length, width, and height to your products for accurate shipping calculations.
• Use Carrier or Custom Boxes – Set up carrier-provided boxes or define custom box dimensions and weight. The app will automatically choose the most suitable box based on size when an order is placed.
• Pre-Packed Products – If certain products ship in their own packaging, you can mark them as pre-packed to ensure they are not combined with others.

This way, your shipping rates remain accurate, preventing overcharges or undercharges while improving customer satisfaction.
