Accepting credit cards, warehouses, and shipping and fulfilling orders
I have two shipping related questions...First is it possible to add product specific production times to correlate with expected delivery dates? We have some products ready to ship in 1 day and others that require personalization that may take up to 3 days. I don't want to set just a generic say 3 day production time as it makes some of our products seem like they will take longer then they do.
Second question, When using calculated shipping how do I get product specific shipping based on both dimensions and weight? We have some products that ship in a 36" x 4" x 4" box but we also have smaller products that can ship in a 12" x 9" poly bag. There is nowhere to put in dimensions just weight so how does it calculate shipping correctly without knw
Unfortunately, the native Shopify shipping solution does not support product specific delivery times or multiple box dimensions for rate calculation. A possible workaround would be to use the volumetric weight for boxes (which is something like, Length (m) x Width (m) x Height (m) x 200 - varies with carriers), compare it with the actual weight of the product (carton weight plus product weight) and take the larger as the product weight for shipping. And check if this results a better approximation.
Another solution is you can use apps. There are several apps that can resolve this. For example, our app JsRates can easily resolve this by providing a custom solution - tailored specific to your needs (rates with product specific delivery dates and box dimension). In case you wanted to use apps, we can help you implement this with JsRates, please contact us on support@jsrates.com.
Hey there. I can see YOD_Solutions has already offered one potential solution to your issue - If it's not suitable, I'd also recommend checking out our app Starshipit which can achieve the same result. In any case, good luck and I'm curious to hear how you get on!
You can configure different shipping profiles based on production time of each prodct, and then for each profile, you can assign an appropriate Estimated Time of Delivery (ETD).
However, when a product from a different shipping profile is added to the cart, the shipping rates and estimated delivery date will be combined.
Regarding dimensions, Shopify's shipping process calculates shipment based only on weight.
One alternative is to configure the volumetric weight or actual weight, whichever is higher, as the weight. This way, shipping rates will be accurate without considering the box dimensions.
However, if you require carrier boxes or would like to automate your box packing, then you may need an app like Multi Carrier Shipping Label app.
