Shipping Rates

Hello, I apologize ahead of time if My question is insignificant. I Set up everything on my store in terms of product and added the weight to calculate shipping. Ran a test order on my store and when I was playing with the test order once it was placed, it prompted me to select shipping. In doing so, I had to plug-in the dimensions of my Mailer that I will use to ship garments In. I plugged in the dimensions and the price that I charged Was different or less than the price that I would pay on the backend. I spoke to Shopify support, they told me to do some research and set a wide shipping rate as well as One for United States. This way once I Figure out what that rate is, my shipping will reflect the actual Rates a little more accurately. I am wondering how I go about figuring out what these rates are and was wondering if there’s anybody that has gone through this or knows how to figure out these Canada wide and United States wide shipping rates? Again, I apologize if my question is rookie.

Thank you in advance

@FAMISHED These are significant questions not to mention very common questions for anyone who is trying to set up their business.

As per my recommendations, there are a lot of ways to handle this. But for starters, I have 2 solutions where you can decide how to go about it.

The first one would be to offer the same prices that you are paying. You will have to choose the shipping carrier which you plan to use for shipping. Based on Canada, I would assume the options can be Canada Post, Canpar, and Purolator. Of course, based on the customer base across Canada and the US, you have other options like USPS, UPS, FedEx, DHL, etc. You will have to finalize the carrier based on your products and the shipping cost each carrier offers.

  • Once the carrier is finalised, you can opt for a shipping application like ours to calculate and display the carrier shipping cost to the customers. You will also be able to adjust the cost for your customers based on how high or low you want the costs to be.

The other one would be to utilize the flat-rate shipping options. After finalising the carrier and getting estimates from the carrier side, you will have to find a shipping cost that your customers will be comfortable paying without impacting your cost.

You can feel free to experiment with both options simultaneously as well and see what the customers pick. That will help you decide the best option that suits your business needs as well as help with customer satisfaction.
