Accepting credit cards, warehouses, and shipping and fulfilling orders
Hey All,
I am from the UK and have a Shopify Plan, I pay through Pay Pal.
In the last few months I have noitced Pay Pal are charging a surcharge to convert the bill from £ to $.
I have researched on shopify and although they say you can change $ to £ within Admin i can not seem to find the setting.
Can anybody please?
Many Thanks
Hello @AndyUK
Shopify bills all merchants in USD by default, and there’s currently no option to change the billing currency to GBP (or any other currency). The setting you might have come across in Shopify Admin is for changing the store's selling currency (what customers see), but not the billing currency.
Ways to Reduce PayPal’s Currency Conversion Fees
Since you are paying through PayPal and they charge a conversion fee, here are a few workarounds:
1.Use a USD Balance in PayPal
. If you receive payments in USD, you can keep a USD balance in PayPal and pay Shopify directly from it. This avoids PayPal’s conversion fees.
2.Change PayPal’s Currency Conversion Settings
.By default, PayPal converts currencies using their own exchange rates (which include a hidden fee).
.You can change this by:
1.Logging into PayPal.
2.Going to Wallet → Click on your card.
3.Look for an option like Manage Currency Conversion or Convert with Card Issuer.
4.Choose Bill me in the currency listed on the seller’s invoice (USD).
.This will allow your bank or card provider to handle the conversion, which usually has lower fees than PayPal.
3.Use a Multi-Currency Card
.Some UK banks (like Wise, Revolut, or Monzo) offer multi-currency accounts/cards that let you hold USD and pay Shopify without conversion fees.
4.Switch to a Credit/Debit Card Payment
.Instead of PayPal, consider using a bank card that offers better exchange rates.
Thank you 😊
