Shopify Canada Post shipping label insurance option

Hi,

I would like to know how can one buy insurance when purchasing Canada Post labels through Shopify store panel.  I recently shipped out an item without any insurance since I did not see it mentioned anywhere during the shipping label purchasing process.  I only realized it after I bought the labels and stuck it on my package.

The instructions to buy Canada Post shipping labels don't mention it also.   https://help.shopify.com/manual/shipping/labels/buy-and-print

I have to buy shipping labels with insurance for my upcoming orders.. Won't use Shopify shipping labels if they aren't offered.

thanks

Hey A L,

This is Oswald, a Guru here at Shopify!

At the moment we do not have the option to buy additional services such as insurance for the shipping labels via the Shopify Admin. You may use an app called Shippo that has the option and it will sync up with all your orders on your Shopify store to allow you to buy them with ease.

If you have any other questions, feel free to reach out to the Guru team. :)

Cheers!

Hey Oswald,

Is there any update on this feature? I'm also looking for an option to add additional insurance to a package and create the label through the Shopify Canada Post portal.

Thanks!

Canada Post API provides a field 'Coverage' that covers or insures your shipments. It shows the final rates which include coverage against loss or damage. The availability and the limits of liability coverage depend on the service selected, country of destination, and the nature of the items being shipped. To use this feature, you can try the Multi Carrier Shipping label app.

Hi there, is there any update on this? This is an important feature for my business and really hoping it could be added. I reached out to the Canada Post developer community first to see if it was something on their end but they said its actually a Shopify limitation (see below).

Our API definitely supports coverage (insurance) up to $1000, I just tested this with Domestic Expedited service.

However adding additional coverage is an extra option and Shopify needs to support this feature in order for you to use it.

We recommend you to reach out to Shopify support to see if this is something they support, and if so how to add it.

There are also third party shipping app available for Shopify that definitely do supports it.

Many thanks,

This should be a feature built in as Canada Post offers additional insurance coverage over $100.  Customers should make the choice if they want additional coverage...come on Shopify....can't be too difficult to add this feature!

Hi @jjordan63,

Currently, this feature is not available in Shopify. However, as a workaround, you can use Multi Carrier Shipping Label App. It integrates with Canada Post and allows you to add insurance coverage for your products.

Thanks for the response to this.  However, I don't see this as viable workaround when it costs $30USD per month (in fact having to purchase anything is never a workaround) just to use something can simply be coded in a matter of minutes by Shopify therefore enhancing this further.  What would be even equally as helpful is to have the ability to populate customer info from Shopify into the Canada Post online shipping.  At this point, everything is manual.  I also use Inxpress which does populate into their online site from Shopify.  My $0.05 for what it's worth.
