Shopify denied my store for payments need help

Hello Everyone,

I am starting a all natural and organic pet wellness company. The 2 products I am going to launch with are supplement treats. the worst part is, all my health claims are valid as all my products are made with fda approved ingredients.

Now that i got denied they want to charge me an additional 2 percent of the transaction + w.e the new processor charges me. Now I am looking at 4-5 percents of the sale, this is ridicolous.

What have you guys done if put in this position, and any gateways you recommend?

Hi, Roberto.

This is Max from the Shopify Team.

Each payment gateway has its own restrictions on what can and cannot be sold using their services. Often shops are rejected due to the level of risk that they present, sometimes this is directly related to the products being sold!

If you are not eligible to use Shopify Payments, then there should be some alternate payment processors listed here, by country, and also directly in your Shopify admin under Settings > Payment providers. Since location is another variable to consider, you might want to share that here to get some more feedback from the community and their personal experiences. For example, Authorize.net in the United States is a popular alternative.

I'd suggest contacting the provider directly to see about applicable fees, any terms and conditions they might have and see if your shop could be a good fit. It might also be good to compare the customer service they offer (how and when), and what the turn around time is for payouts and refunds, etc.

I hope that helps a bit as choosing a new payment provider can be a challenge, but once it's all sorted it'll be great to get the focus back on making sales and providing a great experience to your customers!

Cheers,
Max

Hey Roberto,

If you can't use Shopify Payments, my recommendations are PayPal or Authorize.net.

This link also outlines all of the different types of prohibited businesses for Shopify Payments:

https://www.shopify.ca/legal/terms-payments-us

Your business would fall into the Pharmaceuticals or Pseudo pharmaceuticals category.

Also worth noting, if you're making a lot of sales -- is if you're on the Shopify Plus plan, then I believe there are no transaction fees charged for using a third-party payment gateway.

Best of luck with your business! 🙂

That's not the case.

(And do we really need the referral link added?)

It definitely used to be 0% transaction fees on Shopify Plus -- if it's not currently. Do you happen know what the transaction fees are on the Shopify Plus plan now then, Jason? (I did some searching, and they don't seem to be listed on any official Shopify page that I could find.)

At the very least, the Shopify Advanced plan is only 0.5% transaction fees, which should help -- if you can justify the plan upgrade.

Getting denied for shopify payments has been a real pain.

I got my shop rejected also - www.herbalblend.co

I signed up with E-merchant brokers / Authorize.net who quoted me $14.99/month in addition to all the processing fees - 3.95% + .25 per transaction.

No joke, I've been up for 3 months and I've been charged over $250 in monthly fees and around 9% per transaction (calculating the processing percentage, transaction fees & Shopify's 2% fee for using external gateway) horrible customer service and takes me days to get bits of clarity of what their doing.

Currently on the hunt for a reasonable "high risk" processor, any recommendations would be appreciated!

Hey Regee,

If you're able to use the PayPal Express Checkout, then you shouldn't be charged a monthly fee by PayPal -- and I believe the PayPal rates are 2.9% + 30c per order... which would total 4.9% + 30c per order, if you're on the $29/month Shopify plan.

PayPal's acceptable uses are a lot more relaxed than Shopify Payments, see here:

https://www.paypal.com/ca/webapps/mpp/ua/acceptableuse-full

Hope this helps! 🙂

I am looking into Stripe, 2.9 percent and .30 cents no monthly fees

Shopify uses Stripe. If Shopify denied your store, Stripe denied your store.

If you've been denied by shopify it's usually due to Stripe.  If you're looking for an alternative option I can definitely help you out.

If you've been denied by Shopify, it can often be due to the type of business or product you're selling. Especially if it's categorized as "high risk".

What you may need to do is look into getting a high risk merchant account that works with payment gateways like Authorize.net which will integrate with your shopify store.

I actually work for Soar Payments, which specializes in these kinds of accounts and integrates well with shopify. Feel free to give me a call if you're still looking for help! 888-225-9405.

I am in the same situation.  I primarily sell apparel and decor, but recently added VitaPens that are inhaled natural water vapors I assume are considered holistic medicine? I think this flagged my store as a risk.  I am happy to stop selling these if this is the issue, they are not primary product category but I am being told this is a permanent decision and they will not let me know if this is the issue!  These items are only 10 out of over 4000 products on my store it is unreasonable that I would be restricted indefinitely from Shopify payments without being offered an opportunity to remove these items if, in fact, these are the cause.

The same thing happened to me except that I didn't violate acceptable terms policy, but they're still making me use a third party payment gateway. If you get an answer I would like to know what to do! Thanks
