Hi, @Vyoadmin!

Great question!

Using Shopify does not require you to have a registered business name. Shopify enables individuals to easily create and manage an online store without the need for a registered business name.

Regarding Payment gateways, most payment providers may require some type of verification. They are usually required to verify the identity and legitimacy of businesses they work with to ensure compliance with regulations. By requesting business registration documents, they can confirm that the business is legally established and operating within the applicable laws.

The verification process plays a crucial role for payment providers in ensuring compliance, mitigating risks, safeguarding customers, and fostering trust. It contributes to creating a safer and more secure payment ecosystem for all participants involved. It's worth noting that different payment providers may have distinct requirements and verification procedures. Therefore, it is advisable to carefully review the specific requirements of each payment provider you are considering for integration with your store.

Can you tell me where your location is, and I can see if I can find out anything for you?

Separate to this are there any business goals you are working on at the moment? I'd love to help you find ways to grow your store!

Hi there,

My location is Nigeria currently. Well my major goal right now is to
incorporate a global payment method to my site, find better way for a
fulfilment service and grow my business from small scale to a larger scale.

Hey, @Vyoadmin!

Thanks for getting back to me so swiftly!

As you're based in Nigeria, I'd recommend checking out the payment providers for Nigeria on our list here if you haven't already!

There are a couple of payment providers on that list which are supported to use with Shopify. I did some research for you and while some do need business registration, here are a few below that may not need them, but it is best to check with them directly as it is not clear.

Paynamics

- Flutterwave

- Oceanpayment

- Onerway

- Paygate

If you require some help with fulfillment service, check out our help doc here! As always, any questions let me know.

Hello, I am currently trying to launch my Shopify  store from India. As you mentioned about the common issue of finding a payment processor that I could use to get my store ready to go. Kindly help me find one as I have tried every possible payment processor that I could. But they all require some sort of proof of registration of the business even as sole proprietorship. Kindly help thank you

Hey, @Manditya!

Thanks for joining this thread!

Did you check all the payment providers mentioned on this list here? You need to scroll down to 'Payment information by country or region' and type your region into the search bar.

As mentioned above on this thread, many payment providers typically mandate a verification process to confirm the identity and authenticity of the businesses they engage with, ensuring adherence to regulatory standards. This verification often involves submitting business registration documents to validate the legal establishment and operation of the business within the relevant laws.

We wouldn't be able to recommend any other payment gateways other than what's on the above page and that already has an integration with Shopify. If you have done your due diligence and contacted them about this, then the next logical step here would be to try and register your business in some way. You can check out this guide here, for more information on how to register your business.

Have you considered registering your entity to navigate through this verification requirement?
