Split Shipping

Solved

We have several products that are stocked ready to ship in their own packaging.  They basically come off the shelf, get a label and go out the door.  This is fine when they are the only item ordered, but if a customer orders multiple products the shipping doesn't work out correct.

For example: Product A weighs 10 lbs and comes in its own packaging as outlined above.  Product B weighs 6 oz, Product C weighs 5 oz both products B and C are traditional "Pick and Pack" items.

If a customer orders product A on its own, they pay for 10lbs shipping and the item gets shipped alone.  No problem.

On the other hand...

If a customer orders products A, B, and C, they pay for 10lbs 11 oz shipping.  BUT they get shipped two packages one that is 10lbs and one that is 11 oz.  We end up eating $2-5 on each of these shipments which adds up quickly.

Is there a way to tag product A so it ships alone and force Shopify to charge the customer appropriately?

Open to suggestions.

This is an accepted solution.

In your shipping settings, there is now an option for separate shipping profiles for individual or groups of products. If you create a profile for product 'A', and a separate profile for products B, C, etc. it is designed to calculate the shipping for each separately and charge the customer the combined shipping total.

Hi,

I have tried this solution and my orders still come through as though they are all shipping together. Is there something I am missing? Do I need to do something with the weight? I have created several different shipping profiles and when I order one of each, they all still come through as though they are shipping in the same package and I only have one spot to create a shipping label.

Hi @KurtKramer

Do you also have your shipping zones and rates set up within each individual profile that you created?

Hi @BobsMojo,

Yes, I have the shipping zones and rates setup within each individual profile. Do I need to add conditions for this to work? Currently, I just have the zone and cost setup.

You should not need to add any conditions for it to add the combined shipping rates. As long as you have the rates and zones set up for each profile, and there are items in an order that are in separate profiles, they should be adding the separate shipping costs together at checkout.

Would you be willing to share your top-level shipping settings screen (like pictured below)?

Hi, the only way we have found to do it is through creating a draft order
for the items you want to ship separately. Then when you go to fulfill the
orders you only fulfill the items you’re shipping out with each order or
your inventory will get screwed up.

Im having a issue with shipping .. I'm trying to set up bigger items automatically get the priority box rate and not the $8.50 envelope and if someone orders more then one item it would get the box rate as well .

Am I missing something, or does this not do anything to solve the problem of someone buying the same product two or more times at once?  I sell 4 products, all different colors of the same product.  It's very common for someone to buy two of the same color, and they are boxed with boxes that fix the product perfectly.  There is no reason to combine boxes, just waste and makes it a less helpful shape for the shipper.

How is this feature something that is so hard?
