Accepting credit cards, warehouses, and shipping and fulfilling orders
Hello! I am new to using Shopify and a bit tech challenged, so apologies if there is an obvious answer I'm missing
A customer placed a large order (7 items) that is too large for one shipping box, it's an issue that this early in my journey I hadn't ever thought about. Is there a way to split the shipping label into multiple shipping boxes? And is there a way to have it automatic so customers aren't paying an incorrect amount for shipping?
Hello, @CookieTiam.
Thank you for reaching out and posting this question!
You can split the fulfillment of an order by purchasing separate shipping labels, and you can see a screenshot on how that works right over here: Shipping labels single order with multiple boxes. However, if you want to automatically capture the correct amount, then I'd recommend setting up carrier calculated shipping rates and adding weights to all of your products.
That being said, you can also review the saved packages for your store and/or mark up or discount a calculated rate to account for any cost differences between your shipping labels and the shipping rates (paid by your customers). It's important to note that the default package is used for the calculation of shipping rates in the checkout as well as when you purchase shipping labels on Shopify, so performing some test carts might help with the considerations for your shipping rates.
I'd love to hear more about your business! What kinds of products are you selling? Do you have a marketing plan prepared for your store?

I don't see a screen shot of how splitting the labels when fulfilling the orders on the link you supplied above.
Hey, @ClarkL.
Thanks for joining the thread!
It looks like the original guides and processes have been updated, and you can learn more about them here: Split a fulfillment and Merge a fulfillment.
That being said, I noticed you're a new member of our Shopify Community! I'd love to hear more about your business and share some resources to help you get started. What types of products are you selling? Have you developed a marketing plan for your store?

That link doesn't work either. Can you just write the steps?
Hey, @novalin.
Thanks for joining the thread and bringing this to our attention.
I've taken a look at the links from my latest response, and the links appear to be working as expected. From the Fulfilling your own orders guide, simply click into Fulfilling your own orders individually and you'll be able to view the steps for each of the processes: Split a fulfillment & Merge a fulfillment.
If you have any other questions on this topic, then don't hesitate to let me know!

When I follow these directions there is no "..." button to select. I cannot find where to split an order anywhere. Please update this thread again with accurate information and maybe even step by step screenshots. This shouldn't be so hard.
Hi @b7huff,
Thank you for the prompt reply. To gather a bit more information, could you please share a screenshot of what you're seeing when attempting to follow the steps Elias has shared with you?
As those steps are accurate, you will want to ensure that you're splitting an order where more than 1 of the same product has been purchased. For ease, I've shared a screenshot below that outlines where you can locate the ... button.
Please let me know if you have any other concerns.
