Accepting credit cards, warehouses, and shipping and fulfilling orders
Hi, I just started my business here in Canada.
I set up my payment stuff a while ago and was just watching some Shopify payment set up videos again to make sure I did everything but I saw that in the videos, people were asked for the SSN number which I am guessing what a SIN number is in Canada? I don't remember if I put it in. But my Shopify payments are activated so does that mean everything is working and is fine? Maybe it is because I am not charging taxes yet because I have not met the threshold? I am just nervous that it may not be set up properly. I want to re-try putting in my info but when I deactivate, it saves my info for when I activate so I don't even know where to check if I put in my SSN/SIN number. PLEASE HELP!!
Usually, if Shopify requires any additional info (for verification purposes), you would see a message notification to provides some sort of document.
If you don't see anything in your dashbord / payment / billing tab, everything should be fine.
Is there any way I can verify with Shopify that my info is all verified and I put in everything correctly? I just want to confirm that I gave them the info so that I have peace of mind!!
Hi @hjjjj,
During setup for Shopify Payments, you'll be asked to provide some basic information such as your name, address, and bank account information. You may then be asked to provide other documentation for verification purposes, and as @Nick_Marketing says, you will see a banner appear in your Shopify admin if this information is required. Our payments team regularly review Shopify Payments accounts and will make efforts to reach out to the account owner if there is an issue or if more information is needed.
I would just ensure that you check your emails regularly and don't ignore any banner messages within the admin if they appear, and you should be fine. If you want to check some of the details we have on file for your account, you can head to Settings > Payment providers and will be able to view your Shopify Payments settings here.
Have you already accepted any payments through Shopify Payments, or are you just getting started with the gateway?

Hi! Yes i recall doing the basic info and bank info that u mentioned but I don't really recall adding my SIN number but maybe I did at some point? Or maybe you guys just didn't need it from me? Regardless I did a test order and it worked and I got some orders right now and everything got processed and confirmed and added to my payout. I also called Shopify and the agent told me basically what you told me. So I am guessing everything is fine for now and if I am missing something and you guys need it, you guys will contact me first about it. I just wanted to make sure I won't run into any trouble because of this! Thanks!!
Hi @hjjjj,
No problem! It sounds like you have everything set up correctly and if there's an issue, we'll be in touch. It's always good to check these things though so thank you for reaching out about this. Please let me know if you have any further questions.
Kind regards,
