Accepting credit cards, warehouses, and shipping and fulfilling orders
Hi, I have seen a few similar topics on this community but can't fully understand the issue so I would appriciate some help on this. We are in the process of creating a shop that's default currency is HRK (croatian kuna) and Shopify allows HRK as the default site currency but we also want to provide checkout and payments through PayPal, and PayPal doesn’t allow HRK as the site currency. It alerts us the change it to PayPal supported one. We don’t mind if PayPal converts the HRK payments into USD in our Paypal account, but we want to avoid the customers seeing USD or EUR at checkout - we want them to see prices only in HRK.
So is there a way to integrate PayPal on a shopify webshop and KEEP the store currency that is not supported by paypal?
Hi @dunja,
Nick here from Shopify.
Can I ask if you have PayPal Express checkout as your primary gateway right now and what currency it is displaying? If you have HRK as your primary currency and use PayPal Express checkout which is available for Croatia, I don't see why it would display another currency to be perfectly honest.
Can you share your store URL and let me know what your gateway settings are like currently and we can take a closer look for you then. Also, it might be worth reaching out to PayPal directly about this as at the end of the day, it would be a call made on their end. You can contact them directly from here.
Looking forward to hearing from you.
All the best, Nick

Hi Nick, thank you for your answer.
here is the url for our shop: https://zenskirokovnik.myshopify.com
We have HRK set as store currency, but after choosing PayPal express checkout (which is available here) it alerts me to change the store currency from HRK into Paypal supported one. I have attached a screenshot for you. The message says that hrk is not paypal supported currency. Do you have any idea how to fix this problem?
Hi @dunja,
Thank you for sending on this information and the screenshot, it really helped me understand what exactly is going on for you here.
Other than reaching out to PayPal to see if this is something they can look into possibly change and support, the only other options for you here would be for you to present a different currency on your store or select another gateway which Shopify is partnered with in Croatia supporting HRK.
I know this is not ideal and maybe not what you wanted to hear, but it is out of Shopify's control and something only PayPal would be able to change.
Hope this helps to make this clear for you!
All the best, Nick

Hi Nick,
I only have one think to check now - I have asked PayPal for help and they responded by sending me back to you (shopify) since you are able to change the Module (quote:"I would recommend you to contact their technical support (Shopify) and set up their Module in order to pass a supported currency to our server.").
Can you please explain is this possible and what kind of changes are they talking about?
All the best,
Ana
Hi @dunja,
I looked further into this for you and asked our higher level technical support team about it. They said that Shopify can only support the PayPal Express currencies and if you're getting a message that HRK is not supported then PayPal need to support that currency directly with PayPal Express.
Hope that helps clear that up for you!

Hi @dunja,
Have you ever tried using an alternative payout method like Local Bank Transfers? Transpay, a company that specializes in sending Local Bank Transfers, sends payouts directly into your local bank account in your local currency, faster and with no hidden fees.
Transpay has recently published this guide that summarizes what Local Bank Transfers are all about. It wouldn’t hurt to check it out! https://hubs.ly/H0h8nh20
If you’re interested in getting paid via Local Bank Transfers, you may want to let Shopify know so that they can add it among their payout options.

Hi guys,
We set up our store few weeks ago but I was unaware that we are unable to accept HRK payments by PayPal. Thus some of my customers decided to abandon cart since they were unable to pay online and didn't want to hassle with paying by bank. Shame it took me so long to discover this issue.
I have tried adding second currency to our store but that's not supported also 😕 This is a major setback since we have customers who pay from Croatia as well as well from outside country in EUR and I would like to enable them to pay in their currency as well (EUR or USD for example) and of course display their currencies on store products.
I found this tutorial
https://help.shopify.com/en/manual/payments/shopify-payments/multi-currency/setup
but Croatia is not supported
https://help.shopify.com/en/manual/payments/shopify-payments/shopify-payments-requirements
Can you help me out so I don't have to create another shop for EUR currency. I did not want to open a new thread since this is the exact same issue @dunja had.
Our shop link is

Best regards,
Marin
Hi @Cokaric,
As well as PayPal you can add another payment gateway to your store to accept credit cards from all other currencies. As you mentioned Shopify Payments isn't available in Croatia, but there are other gateways you can use. You can see all the gateways available in Croatia from the link here.
