Re: Subscriptions Local Pickup Local Delivery

Subscriptions + Local Pickup + Local Delivery

It's absolutely mindblowing that Shopify doesn't have the ability to let customers select other fulfillment options with subscription services. In a metro area with tons of customers within delivery, but more importantly, walking and cycling distance, why wouldn't local pickup be an option for all products including subscription ones. The only difference with a subscription is the fact that the charge should be recurring. And the order should be notified as ready for fulfillment each subscription cycle.

Somehow all of the most recommended subscription apps for Shopify don't support this. Shopify, do yourself a favor, and release a better subscription MVP for retailers that includes all fulfillment options at checkout.

Agreed I really need this option. Have so many customers who forget to purchase my products each week and subscriptions would keep my sales up

Hard agree. Subscriptions with local pickup was a core component of my business model. Instead I'll just have to do a hell of a lot more marketing on a weekly basis to get customers to make repeat purchases, while we wait on Shopify to offer what should be a very simple solution.

Is anyone have a solution for Subscription with Local Delivery?

Looks there are some things on the Dev roadmap but the dates are somewhat vague.

A workaround I am using at the moment is to create a product with 2 different subscription options with Assemble plugin, I have 2 variations on the product page, one for shipping and one for local pickup or delivery. The local option is $15 less than the shipped option.

This product is a non-shipped product so it does not ask for shipping information at checkout. The main risks right now are:

1. Customers shipping and billing can vary so we have the first step to confirm address before starting subscription cycle.

2. A shipped product and a non-shipping product don’t play super well together in the cart from what I remember in testing.

3. Sure there are a few other reasons this is not ideal, and I did some custom CSS to really get it working well with Assemble app, but the concept is mostly there. You can see the example and also a Dev roadmap for Shopify below.

Thanks for the update.

It seems H2 2022 is their Dev roadmap goal, so fingers crossed we'll get an update soon.

Lots of local customers are missing out on subscriptions because of this!

I wonder who was your resource that told you this?? I have a business where I ONLY locally deliver and curbside pickup. Subscriptions for me would open up so much additional revenue and customer flexibility. I'm literally making more sales only at Farm Markets and Pop-ups using my POS - NOT online sales. It's a shame, I've been hoping for 2 years now that this will change. I will have to transition completely to square soon if this doesn't get resolved. I get all kinds of requests asking about a subscriptions since I am a seasonal business as well. I would love to stay completely with shopify....

"I have gotten in touch with the Dev doc editors and public road maps is not something we will be continuing to do. However, I can confirm that our team is still aiming to have support for local delivery and pick up in store with subscription within Q3."

Q3 is nearing its end. I sure hope they get this figured out. It seems like there was some testing going on because the other day I was able to get local delivery selected while making a manual order and now it is gone. That really helped me with my delivery driver for wholesale accounts as I was able to add all the stops to the delivery app so it was as efficient as possible. But that only lasted for a week.

I can now make a manual order on the browser but I cannot get this option to load on the Shopify App.

I have spent many hours talking with them about this. I think more people need to call and complain. they are losing so much money..

Absolutely agree. This is holding my business back by $125,000 a year because of it. It was on the roadmap for a fix but now I can't even find the roadmap.

My customers want this SOOOOOO Badly. I have been asking about this for years now and because it was not released on time with the roadmap that was previously published I will most likely be migrating to another platform. SHOPIFY you are loosing out on soooo much revenue from this. Please respond to let us know when/if this is something that you still plan on releasing.

Hi,

With the new version of the Shopify API 2022-10, Shopify introduced the local pickup and local delivery as a delivery option for subscription purchases. https://shopify.dev/changelog/local-delivery-pickup-for-subscriptions
I have already seen it working in some stores, but when I try to set it up in my store, I can't figure out how to do it.
I have set up the local delivery in Shopify admin > Settings and it works for one-time orders. But it doesn't seem to work with auto-charging subscriptions, no matter what I do.

Has anyone figured out how to set this local delivery and local pickup for subscriptions in Shopify?

"Has anyone figured out how to set this local delivery and local pickup for subscriptions in Shopify?"

Also trying to figure this out. This is quite annoying...It does not work at the back end, when I fulfill orders there is not a button for "prepare for delivery" and then " mark as delievered".

It works now!

I have been using it for a month.

Would you mind sharing how you went about it? Do you need to use an app?

It didn’t. It works for the first time but not after that. I use recharge for my subs and in there I am able to change things so it doesn’t charge a shipping charge. You can set it to manual in that app. It’s all quite annoying and really strange that this has not been made to work.
