Brand new to Shopify. I'm setting up a site for a friend, and would like to test making a payment. The site is currently in Trial mode, and I have enabled the Bogus payment gateway. I select an item and add it to my Cart, but when I try to check out I get error "Checkout isn't available" and "Return to the home page or contact the store directly.".
Am I misunderstanding something?
Are there any logs I can enable or check?
Confirm the behavior If you have regular payment gateways deactive the bogus gateway , reactivate regular payment gateways and test.
Make sure to re-read the setup article , which includes instructions to deactivate other payment gateways.
Try clearing browser cache, or another browser.
"Checkout isn't available"
If it's a near empty whitepage almost like a 404:
Checkout may not work with preview urls.
There may be something wrong with your theme, try a fresh install of any theme to confirm there's nothing wrong with the cart.
Beyond that contact partner support found through the partner dashboard.

I am wondering if you are trying to test Shopify Payments or a third-party payment gateway? If it is Shopify payments, then we have a guide with all steps outlined here. If the gateway is third-party then a bogus gateway will have to be added in order to test payments. You can read how to add this bogus gateway here.
