Accepting credit cards, warehouses, and shipping and fulfilling orders
I highly recommend all Shopify users read this post to avoid a nightmare like ours.
We run a store selling regular beauty products—not high-risk items. One morning, I woke up to an email saying Shopify would reserve 20% of our funds for 120 days. I was beyond frustrated but tried to stay calm. Then, they held all our payouts for verification. Hours later, they did it again. This meant a payout delay of over a week, causing fulfillment delays. Then, they dropped the bombshell: they would hold 100% of our money for 120 days! No reason, no explanation. Just like that, they held over $20,000!
After the hold, we've been struggling to fulfill orders since our cash flow has been ruined. We are almost guaranteed to receive chargebacks or refunds soon, not because of us, but because of Shopify itself!!!! How can you hold a business's payout in the name of mitigating chargeback risk, but be the direct cause of the chargebacks??!?!
We've provided all the documentation they asked for—license, ID, supplier documents—but our rep just responds with generic, copy-paste replies. We need someone to escalate this matter. This is our last hope to save our business after what Shopify Payments did to us. Please, we need help!
It's also worth noting that it's illegal to hold someone's money for 120 days or more without proof of fraud, chargebacks, or legal violations. In such cases, the person has the right to seek legal advice or assistance if the payments aren’t released.
