Using Printful for order fulfillment (cash flow solutions?)

I've just set up a Shopify store with print on demand t shirts using Printful.

Put a test order through and have been immediately charged by Printful but looking at 5-7 days to then receive payout from Shopify - am I going to need to keep a buffer cash amount to front the fulfilment costs? Is there a way to delay cash out to Printful or speed up cash in from Shopify?

Thanks for your help in advance, super green to this so any advice is really appreciated.

Hey @AHF

When using Printful for print-on-demand fulfillment on your Shopify store, it's important to consider the timing of payments and cash flow management. Here are a few points to keep in mind:

  1. Payment processing times: When an order is placed on your Shopify store and fulfilled by Printful, they will charge you for the fulfillment costs immediately. However, the payout from Shopify to your bank account typically takes 5-7 business days, depending on your payment gateway and settings.

  2. Cash flow planning: It's advisable to have a buffer cash amount to cover the fulfillment costs while waiting for the payout from Shopify. This ensures that you have sufficient funds to cover the upfront expenses associated with fulfilling the orders through Printful.

  3. Payment options: Explore the payment options available with Printful and Shopify to see if there are any alternatives that can help improve cash flow. For example, some payment gateways offer faster payout options, but they may involve additional fees or qualifications.

  4. Shopify payout schedule: Check the payout schedule settings in your Shopify account. Depending on your Shopify plan and location, you may have the option to adjust the frequency of payouts. However, note that faster payout options may also have eligibility criteria or transaction volume requirements.

  5. Communication with Printful: Reach out to Printful's customer support or check their documentation to see if they have any specific recommendations or options to align payment timing with your cash flow needs. They may be able to provide insights or alternative solutions.

Ultimately, managing cash flow in your print-on-demand business requires careful planning and monitoring of incoming payments and outgoing expenses. It's essential to maintain a sufficient cash buffer to cover fulfillment costs while waiting for the Shopify payout. Regularly reviewing and adjusting your cash flow strategy can help ensure the smooth operation of your business.
