Accepting credit cards, warehouses, and shipping and fulfilling orders
I sell bicycles amongst other things, i want to have a flat rate to ship them, while having the rest of my store be order total based shipping. I use shippo for most things but a separate bicycle specific company for shipping the bikes. I'm not sure how to set this up? or if i need a specific app to do this....
update right after i posted this they recommended a post with the answer HideShip
To set up separate shipping rates for bicycles and other products, you can use a combination of Shopify's shipping profiles and third-party apps like HideShip. You can create a custom shipping profile for the bicycles and set a flat rate specifically for those products. For other products, you can keep your existing order total-based shipping rules. This allows you to manage different shipping methods and rates for different product types, including using the bicycle-specific company for those orders.
Hi @Dustyw
You’ll need conditional shipping rates based on product type, which Shopify's built-in shipping settings don’t fully support. Since you’re using Shippo, but also a separate carrier for bicycles, here are a few options:
Hi @Dustyw 👋,
You can achieve this directly in Shopify without needing an additional app by setting up two separate shipping profiles in the Shipping and Delivery settings.
This setup ensures that bicycles have a flat shipping rate while the rest of your store follows your custom shipping rates.
Enabling split shipping rates can provide better visibility to customers by showing how much shipping cost applies to each product category. I've added some screenshots for reference on split shipping settings.
For order-total-based shipping, Shopify calculates shipping based on the total cart value, not just the selected profile. So, even if you apply order-total-based shipping only to the second profile, if a customer adds both a bicycle (Profile 1) and other products (Profile 2), Shopify will still use the total cart value to calculate shipping for Profile 2.
If you're using a third-party app for calculated rates in Profile 2, this won't be an issue. Otherwise, you may need to adjust your settings to ensure the correct shipping rates are applied.
Hope this helps!
