I had a similar issue some time ago on another website platform where I had de-activated my website. When I made contact with their customer service I was informed that I should have cancelled my subscription first or deactivate auto-renew. They did sort it in the end

Hi there, @Tombarwise16.

Welcome to the Shopify Community!

I understand you're being billed despite deactivating your Shopify store. Rest assured, I'll do my best to share a bit more information and what next steps you can take.

Prior to closing your store, here are some tips to note to ensure you're not billed once you've deactivated your account.

  • Make sure that you pay any outstanding charges that you might have. If you have no outstanding charges against your account, then you won't receive a bill after deactivating your store.
  • If you have any third-party apps that have your payment information outside of Shopify, then cancel your service with those apps to avoid being billed externally after you deactivate your store.

  • Make sure to turn off auto-renewal for your custom domain on your registrar's website to avoid unexpected charges.

Can you confirm if you've followed the steps in our help center resource to successfully deactive your account? Once you've deactivated your account, you'll receive an email to confirm that your store's deactivated.

Additionally, I would also double-check that there are no additional stores created under your email address. You can use our Forgot Your Store tool by entering your email address to recover your store name and address. This tool will send you a list via email of your store URL(s).

Lastly, if you'd like our team to take a closer look at your account settings to ensure it was successfully closed, you can create a support request via the Shopify Help Center. To speed up the process, I'll share what steps to follow below.

How to contact Shopify Support:

  • Navigate to the Shopify Help Center.
  • Log into your account.
  • Select Account > Plans and billing from the topics provided.
  • On the following page, scroll down to the Get Support section to view our contact options.

Should you have any concerns accessing the help center or need help, please share them here.
