Why are customers experiencing persistent checkout errors?

We seem to be receiving a large number of customer complaints this morning regarding errors at checkout, we're up to 12 so far with people receiving an error message.

A coup,e of people have said that this was noticed yesterday and they attempted again today, so the error is persistent.

I have asked that this can be screenshot which I have attached.
