Why are gift cards not covering shipping charges?

According to the Help files, gift cards are applied to the final order total which includes shipping and taxes.

However, when I apply the gift cards to orders, Shipping is being added on AFTER the gift card is applied forcing the customer to pay for shipping.

Why is that?

Greetings, and thanks for posting!

I understand you are having issues with your order totals. That being said, it sounds like you may be referring to discounts, not gift cards. Is that correct? 

If so, we will need more information regarding your shipping settings as well as the discount that is being applied. 

For example, if your products require shipping and you have shipping rates set up for the products affected by the discount, a shipping rate would still be applied to a 100% discount. In order for shipping to be free you would need free shipping, or have the shipping included in the discount.

Hi Skye,
Your comment about the Discounts vs Gift Cards was what I needed.
I had them set up as discounts.  As soon as I disabled the discounts and added the gift cards as actual gift cards, they worked as intended.
