Accepting credit cards, warehouses, and shipping and fulfilling orders
We are a Shopify retailer of window coverings for over 7 years. We have noticed increased UPS shipping 'price adjustments' fees over the past 6 months, several are $1000+ over what we paid for the original label. Really, $1000+ - no exaggeration - for labels that originally cost $130 - see attached. We have documented evidence that our shipping package measurements are correct, as we take pictures of every shipment to avoid these very issues. As Shopify is our agent with UPS, they claim they are powerless to pursue our claims, though, they have a conflict of interest as Shopify acknowledges they get a cut of UPS fees. Are you seeing expensive 'price adjustments' more frequently? Please respond as we feel the issue is likely pervasive, Together, we can make Shopify listen to us and stop illegitimate 'price adjustments' that hurt our businesses. This could even be considered fraud - your comments could even help elevate this to class-action status.
Leviosa,
Have you gotten any answers on this? We noticed a huge jump in "shipping label price adjustments" of $11.75 on multiple orders (most of which are packaged the exact same way and were not adjusted on other orders). I tried to reach out around April and hit roadblocks with Shopify and never heard back from UPS. All the best!
There is definitely something going on. I woke up to almost $800 worth of bogus USPS label adjustments. $22 per package, all the packages were under 8oz and shipped first class (so on average, $4 a piece). Shopify has since told me they are "working with USPS" to resolve this issue. We don't ship a lot of UPS but I'm sure the process is similar. When I've brought it up in the past they tell me to make sure I weigh and measure all of my packages. That doesn't help. I'm working with USPS directly now because I'm in the red this week over this and I can't continue to ship if they continue to charge me $30 for a $3.50 package.
We have experienced the same problem and it is pervasive. We purchase 14 x 14 x 8 boxes from Uline, yet UPS has for months added price adjustments claiming our boxes are 14 x 14 x 9 and then hitting us with a 100% upcharge. I agree with you this is fraud. Shopify says you need to talk to UPS and UPS says you need to talk to Shopify. I agree with you this is fraud, has anyone taken this to a class action attorney? It may be better as RICO suit because clearly UPS is engaged in racketeering.
Hello @Leviosa ,
That's quite a surcharge! One possibility is UPS's Over Maximum Limits charges.
I wanted to bring to your attention the rather steep UPS Over Maximum Limits charges, which currently amount to a substantial $1,150.00 per package.
To avoid incurring such fees in the future, it's essential to be mindful of the oversize limit criteria:
To prevent such situations, please ensure that packages:
- Have an actual weight of no more than 150 pounds.
- Do not exceed 108 inches in length or a total measurement of 165 inches in length plus girth (calculated as 2 times the width plus 2 times the height).
You can find more detailed information here
Additionally, I highly recommend considering establishing a direct account with a shipping carrier. Many of the leading shipping companies offer attractive shipping discounts tailored to the needs of small and medium-sized business owners. This can significantly benefit your shipping costs in the long run.
I was just charged over $1,500 in shipping adjustments, that I know are incorrect because I also document the size of every box that I ship. Is there any way to dispute these charges? Shopify customer support is really, terrible.
Shopify is merely passing thru UPS costs (though they are probably taking some cut), and they have NO incentive to improve this process. In fact, they complicate the process as you have no direct recourse with UPS. The solution is to get your own UPS account outside of Shopify so you can directly work with UPS - get better discounts, and service when you need it, such as to protest illegitimate UPS surcharges. Many companies (such as ShipStation) provide reasonable cost integrations with Shopify to ship efficiently, and you can work with UPS directly when issues occur.
