Why can't I cancel my unused subscription without paying a fee?

I’ve tried cancelling my subscription multiple times as I don’t use Shopify and haven’t for the past 2 months but every time I tried to cancel it wouldn’t let me. Now it’s asking for $60 USD which I don’t have just so I can cancel it. I haven’t been using it at all this entire time and making no money off of it. How can I avoid this? Every time I tried to cancel earlier it would just not cancel.

It appears that there may be outstanding invoices on your account that are preventing you from cancelling your subscription. It's important to note that if you haven't fully deactivated your store, charges may still be incurred and any outstanding invoices will need to be settled before you can close the store. Even if you haven't used or logged into your store over the past two months, charges would remain valid as the subscription was not cancelled. Please reach out to Shopify support here for assistance in settling any outstanding invoices and cancelling your subscription.

 

Out of curiously, I'd love to understand why you wish to close your store? We hate to see our merchants go so if there is anything that you're stuck on when building your store please let me know!

Hi, the reason why I’m closing this store is because it was more of a test
on how to make a store and I gave up on it around 2 months ago. I ignored
it and forgot to deactivate it and now it’s asking for $60.
