Why does Apple Pay fail at express checkout?

Whenever Apple Pay is selected at express checkout it only opens for a moment and then closes immediately with the message “There was an issue with Apple Pay. Try again or use a different payment method.”

It sounds like you are running into an issue with your Apple Pay button on the checkout page of your store. It's likely that something is interfering with the Apple Pay integration. To begin, you will want to ensure that you enabled this express checkout method correctly. You will then want to confirm that you have a valid fulfillment location, inventory, and shipping settings enabled. Following this, please ensure that your domain settings are correct and up to date as this can often lead to Apple Pay not working.
