Why doesn't Puerto Rico appear in the Shopify checkout country list?

Hi, We received an order from customer located in Puerto Rico. The customer had listed United States as country of delivery for order.

 

Puerto Rico don't show up as an alternative at the Shopify check out at country drop down list. Customer address was:

 

4745 Avenida Isla Verde
12i
Carolina PR 00979
United States

 

From our TA Shipmondo that handles the shipping were able to complete the shipping labels when manually selecting Puerto Rico from their available countries to chose.

 

How come Puerto Rico don't show as alternative at check out?

As Puerto Rico is a territory of the United States, on checkout customers will need to select Puerto Rico under the 'State' heading rather than the 'Country/Region' heading as shown below.

The customer address you mentioned has the PR abbreviation code, so this tells us that the customer correctly selected Puerto Rico as a state when entering their address on checkout.

 

Are you perhaps meaning that you're unable to select any other countries, apart from the United States, under the 'Country/Region' heading on checkout?

Alright, now i understand. Thanks for clarifying customer has selected Puerto Rico as state.

I think the problem lays within the TA application we use, Shipmondo, the order was not able to completed booking unless I made change in delivery country to Puerto Rico. They seams not to consider Puerto Rico as part of US. We hade same issue with Aland. They rule under Finlands flag but are is being treated as export nation. Requires custom documentation to send to Aland.

I will check further with Shipmondo to see if they can update their system. Also give them some education on geographic 🙂
