Shipping charge shown to my customer at check out is much larger than when I go to purchase shipping label?

I'm using Shopify shipping, with one default size box.

Hi there, @tomtally!

Thank you for posting in the Community, I can definitely take a look into this with you.

The first thing I would check is to see if you have handling fees added onto your shipping rates. You can see this by following these steps:

  1. From your Shopify admin, go to Settings > Shipping and delivery.

  2. Next to the profile that contains your shipping rates, click Manage rates.

  3. Scroll down to your rates and see if there is a Handling fee column.

Here is an example from my test store of a rate with a handling fee added on:

15-42-24816-23362

When you have a handling fee added to your rates, your customer will pay more for shipping than you will for the shipping label. Merchants will often add a handling fee to account for the cost of packing/shipping supplies, the gas it takes to drive packages to the post office, etc. If you didn't want the rate to be higher for the customer, you can remove the handling fee.

If there are no handling fees and you're still noticing a discrepancy, I recommend verifying that you have entered in all the shipment details (such as product weights, package dimensions and weight, and the origin address) and that they are all accurate.

If you have looked over all of this and everything looks correct but there are still inconsistencies, you can let me know and we'll do some more digging.

I hope this is helpful!

Hi @tomtally,

As @Greta mentioned it can be because of the handling fee. You can check that and see the checkout rates. Apart from that, you can take a look at your product weights and the shipping zones set in the Shipping & Delivery section. And may I know which carrier service you are using?
