Accepting credit cards, warehouses, and shipping and fulfilling orders
Hi. I'm essentially finished building out my store but I have not set it live yet. So I've just been playing around with things in Preview mode just so I know how everything will function for my eventual customers. I was curious how shipping would be calculated in the process of a purchase, so I added one of my products to Cart, and then proceeded to Check Out. I entered a shipping address (entered a real address in another city) and then proceeded to the Shipping screen. The shipping cost that is calculated in this part of the Check Out process is more than double the amount that Shopify says shipping would be when I go into my Shopify Settings and then to Shipping and Delivery, and plug in the exact same shipping zip code/address in order to "Calculate shipping rates", and also enter the shipping weight and the box dimension. I'm not looking to profit off shipping, so I want the shipping that my customers pay to be exactly (or as close as possible) to what I actually pay for shipping. I have setup the weight of each of my products within the Products section, and I have also already setup the dimensions of my shipping box and its weight within the Setting/Shipping and Deliver section. So it's not clear to my why the shipping cost calculated at Check Out is approx 2.5x the rates that Shopify shows me in the Settings/Shipping and Delivery section. Does anyone know why this is happening? Thank you.
have you had a discussion with Shopify Support about this?
I've simultaneously reached out to them as well, but have had experience before that I don't always get clear/accurate answers. So figured I'd also try the Community on this one.
Understand. It often takes 3-4 reps to get one that is knowledgable to understand a give you the attention to help you with this.
Are you using the Shopify Shipping Calculator in both instances? I have in my one site set up 10 shipping rules based on product location (so that each vendor can have their own cost and they get added together at the end). There is an option for each location to choose custom price or calculate. It seems Shopify got more stingy and only allows those estimates on Advanced or Plus when it used to be available in the $49/month Shopify plan.
I don't know what is making these calculations for you or why they so much more upon estimate. You can always reach out to Intuitive Shipping. I don't like to use 3rd party apps but they are one of the best and always willing to talk.
It is really hard to help specifically without being inside your account continuously making adjustments to troubleshoot the problem. GL!
Thanks Bryan76!
