Why isn't the carrier rate shipping option showing for orders under $100?

Hello,

I currently have 2 shipping options in my settings: 1) Free shipping over $100. 2) carrier rate shipping. 

 

The carrier rate shipping option is not showing up, only the free shipping is (when the order is >$100). Why won't the carrier rate show up for orders less than $100? Photos attached of my shipping settings. Thanks for getting back to me. You are currently only able to have one default package which is used to calculate shipping rates. I understand that this might not be ideal, and I will happily pass your feedback about this along to our developers. 

 

Some workarounds other merchants have utilized for this have been using a default package that's about in the middle of the weight/size of all their available packaging. You can also adjust the calculated rates to reach a better balance of profit and loss from shipping — this help document has some context on this. Another option that many merchants turn to is to use a third-party shipping rate app to add multiple package sizes and create accurate shipping rates based on those packages. Some popular options are Boxify, Advanced Shipping Rules, and Parcelify

 

Even though you currently can only have one default package used for calculating shipping rates, you can still choose the package that works best for your products when purchasing a shipping label within the admin. 

 

Our help document on package and shipment weights is super helpful for understanding all of this!

Hi, @tony94!

 

Thanks for your post. Can you confirm what package you have set as your default package? For context, UPS offers a selection of Express packaging that is only compatible with certain rates, so if that packaging is set as your default, the rates may not appear at checkout. If this is the case, you can change the default package to another UPS package or add a custom package with accurate dimensions.

 

Could you also share your URL with me so I can go through checkout and see what shipping rate options are displayed?

Thank you for the reply, Greta! That was very helpful and partially solved the issue. 

 

My next question would be: I will need different sized packages for different volumes that are purchased (i.e. if someone buys an 8ct of my product, I would need a small box. If they buy a 4ct, I would use a bubble pack). Is it possible to have the shipping package be size dependent?

 

My shop is still in development so it currently cannot be viewed but I am just testing internally to make sure the checkout/shipping is calculating correctly.

Thank you for the explanation! I think the ability to have multiple packages while using carrier rates would be a big help because a lot of sellers likely have different sized products which makes one package tough to figure out.
