Why won't Shopify allow refunds to store credit?

How is refunding to store credit STILL not available? Shopifys last update teased us saying that it would allow refund to store credit, only to find out it only allows Store Credit if the customer originally paid with Store Credit. We need to be able to refund the order value to Store Credit when a customer wishes to exchange an item. Refunding to a Gift Voucher is useless as Shopify treats this as an "exchange" and edits our original Invoice in our accounting system and messes with our Tax's and bank reconciliations. It needs to be treated as a "refund" not an "exchange" in order for our accounting system to create a credit note.

unfortunately you're right. currently shopify only supports refunding to store credit if you paid in store credit. better to look at other alternatives and not wait
