Are our barcodes too small to be read by POS app?

We recently printed a batch of barcodes using the Retail Barcode Labels plugin, and stuck them on our hang tags. We used 1" by 1" labels (30332 size).

We've now found that the Shopify POS app on our iPhones can't read the barcodes with the iPhone camera - they never register. Other, bigger barcodes scan just fine, but none of the barcodes on our 1" by 1" labels work.

Is there a minimum size these barcodes need to be to work? If we bought a handheld barcode reader, would it be able to scan them in? We're trying to decide if it's worth buying a dedicated reader, or simply re-doing our hangtag / label concept.

How many digits in the barcode.  Sometimes smaller barcodes will be in a different barcode format and there are a lot.  Code39, UPC, EAN, Code128, and about 50 more or so.  Also can you see the white between the bars?  Shopify only works with some of the barcodes.  For instance if you were using lightspeed and switched you would need to redo all barcodes, as we had to with over 40k sku's

Hi!

We're creating them with the Shopify plugin, so I have no idea what format their being created in - this is a screen cap of the preview and ours look like that on sticker.

We could be talked into purchasing the barcode reader, but we use the POS app on two phones and would hate to buy two of them to find out they don't work there, either.

looking at the label here when is gets small I would say that the barcode bars are to close together to be readable.  If the manufacturer has its own barcode just put the price on this and remove the barcode from your label.   We use zebra label printers they are better can being cleaners on thermal.  but If your product doesnt have a barcode I would say your going to need to go to bigger labels.  Even if you use the socketscanner (aka piece of junk thats way over priced).

The app that prints them is the Shopify app, the printer is a thermal printer and they are thermal labels - I'm not sure what you mean by manufacturer here - we make our own product and want to make them easier to scan at fairs.

I don't mind paying for the Shopify barcode reader, if it'll work - but the iPhone camera doesn't work 😕

did you find a solution for this? We use the 1.2 x .8 barcodes?
