My Automatic Discount on products works on my online store but not in the POS store. I had a similar issue trying to setup a buy x get y discount not working on the POS store, support has it listed as a "known issue". Is the automatic discount not porting over to the POS system another known issue?
This is a real problem when advertising items and not being able to have the same discounts for online and instore.
And yes, I know a discount code can be setup to do a discount. The point being it should be integrated to both online without us having to track advertised products instore and applying a discount code when a customer buys it.
Elias here from Shopify Support.
I can understand the frustration with our ‘Buy X Get Y’ and ‘Automatic Discounts’ not being compatible with the Point of Sale app. Although our help guide indicates that ‘Buy X Get Y’ and ‘Automatic Discounts’ only work with online sales, I can see how this would be a useful feature to have for POS. This is definitely something that I will be putting forth as a feature request to our developers so that it can help us grow our discount features.
While advertisement campaigns do not actually integrate into the POS for any tracking purposes, our system does allow you to apply a combination of discounts to an order. Here is our guide for ‘Applying discounts in Shopify POS’. If you have retail staff that helps manage in-person sales, please make sure they are aware of which promotions are available and they should be able to apply them to the orders.
I hope this helps. Let me know if you have any further questions.
Thank you for posting and sharing this feedback. I’d be happy to share your feedback with our developers as well. Are there any further details you’d like to share that can help improve the discount functions with the POS?
I have had to pay our loyalty points/vip program to get an "automatic" discount. It's not truly automatic but it at least brings up the discount for our cashiers so all they have to do is redeem. This was the only work around and I agree Shopify POS should have this function as every POS I have ever worked with (POSIM, QB, Lightspeed, and CIN7) all have this basic function.
Thank you for sharing this feedback. I've gone ahead and shared this feedback with our developers as a feature request so that it can be considered for future updates. If Shopify moves forward with feature, you can find it in our changelog or announcements page.
If you have any other questions on this topic, feel free to let me know in this thread.
Hey, @RhysCallender .
Thank you for posting and sharing this feedback with me. I’ll be adding you to the feature request, and sharing this with our developers so they can see how heavily requested this feature is. Were there any other details you’d like to share that can help improve the discount functions with the POS?
Add me to the list of frustrated shopkeepers wanting this error corrected. That this has been on your radar for MORE THAN A YEAR and remains unresolved is utterly absurd and speaks to how little the developers care about the POS channel. I would like to be notified in the event this glitch ever gets resolved. It is crucial for inventory management and seamless operation of a multi-channel business to be able to have an integrated BOGO or any other automatic discount offer. FIX THIS NOW, Shopify.
This is still a problem for us as well. We’ve been using Shopify POS for roughly six months & the amount of problems/issues we are having are stacking up. If the developers have known about this issue for over a year, why isn’t there more of a push to find a resolution?
Thanks for your feedback, @TwentyDegrees and @antony8. I understand that having automatic discounts through Shopify POS would be beneficial for your business. I’ve gone ahead and forwarded your feedback to our developers. If we move forward with this feature, we will reach out to you and all of our merchants. We will also update our changelog or announcements pages. If you have any additional feedback, I am open to hearing it and I am happy to add it to your feedback to our developer team.
Still waiting.....this is a basic need for those of use using both. The whole reason we switched to Shopify was so it would be seamless. This discount thing is a real miss on Shopify's part. We should be able to structure discounts to work across all of our channels that match for ease of shopping.
Tira here again.
I'm excited to update you that adding automatic discounts to Shopify POS is available as of February 2021. Check out our changelog with this update here: Offer automatic discounts at point of sale with POS Pro. Automatic Discounts is available for Shopify POS Pro subscriptions and you can offer automatic percentage, fixed amount, or buy X get Y discounts to retail customers.
You can learn more about how to set-up automatic discounts on Shopify POS Pro in our help doc here: Creating automatic discounts.
Unfortunately, Shopify still cannot run a "Sale day" for in store only (and not online). You can have a 15% Discount on everything online - and with this "NEW" feature, you can also include a POS store that has Shopify PRO. BUT you cannot have just 15% off Sale in store only (not online). Why can't this be done?
Hi, I just tried to do my first automatic discount and it is saying the code in INVALID on the POS. I have the discount activated, toggled to activate on POS, and I have the Pro version. Please advise.
Thank you for joining the thread and bringing this to our attention!
If you're using automatic discounts with Shopify POS Pro, then it's important to have all the items added to the cart before applying the discounts. This would include the discounted or free item(s) offered by the discount as well. However, if that doesn't work, then it looks like we’ll need to access your account in order to resolve this issue. While we’re not able to provide account-specific support via the Shopify Community at this time, we’d be happy to continue assisting you through live chat, email, or callback. Please visit the Shopify Help Center and log in to your account to create a support request.
I'd love to know whether adding all the items to the cart can help resolve the issue. Keep me posted!
The truth of the matter is they only ever had the free pos as a marketing bait hook (comes with free pos!) which was mostly unusable for a real store. They always knew as they developed it into a useful tool that they would roll out all the necessary updates as a over priced subscription product. I just feel bad that I was suckered in by that. Even now in its overpriced state, it's still not up to par with even a basic pos that costs $49 a month.
When will Pro subscription accounts get more than one automatic discount? Looking at other options in the app market to allow more than one automatic discount—involving employees less in the discount application process sure does make a brick and mortar’s shop processes easier.
Thank you for joining the thread and sharing this feedback with us!
I understand that you'd like to be able to offer more than one automatic discount at a given time. I can see how important this feature is to you and I'd be happy to submit a feature request on your behalf. If Shopify moves forward with any changes to the automatic discounts, we'll be sure to announce them on our changelog and/or updates page.
If you're looking for a third-party automatic discount app that allows you to have multiple active automatic discounts and works with Shopify POS, then I'd recommend taking a look at Automatic Discounts & Gifts. If you need any help with this app, you can always reach out to the developer through the contact information found in the Support section of their app's page.
Which types of discounts do you offer usually? Also, which other apps did you check out?
Thank you for sharing this workaround, @Terry_Kast! This will be extremely helpful for others looking for a similar workaround in the meantime. I understand this workaround is more labor intensive and the 'Compare at' allows for discount stacking, both aren't ideal experiences for our merchants. I want to acknowledge this and let everyone know that I’ve forwarded this request to our developers on having automatic discounts work with our POS. As a reminder, if Shopify moves forward with this feature request - you can find it in our changelog or announcements page.
Thank you for getting in touch and sharing your interest for this function. I understand you’re also looking for the automatic discounts to work with our POS. I'll go ahead and add you to the feature request; however, I’m afraid there isn’t a time frame that I can provide for a feature to be implemented. That said, if Shopify moves forward with this feature request - you will be able to find it in our changelog or announcements page.
I too think that the automatic discounts should be made available for Shopify POS. If we have a one day sale on boots (for example), we don't want to be changing prices back and forth after the sale is over. In fact, it would be very useful to be able to select which sales channel the Automatic discount would be applied to (ie: Online or instore or both). Shopify seems to forget the "Brick & Mortar Store" side of things.
Can i please be added to the list to be notified about this feature as well? I am just installing POS to my shopify store now and find it incredible that it is not possible to have automatic discounts be applied on the POS as it is with online sales!
Thank you for joining the thread and I appreciate your feedback. I can see how this would be beneficial to your store and I have forwarded your feedback to our developers.
As mentioned earlier, if we move along with this we will post about it in our changelog or announcements page. You can find the links in my post on the last page of this thread, here.
Please add this feature!! In store sales are our majority so we would love to not have to manually enter the discount every time.
I appreciate your feedback. I've gone ahead and added your voice to our list to our developers. If we move forward with this feature, we'll update our changelog or announcements page with the details.
If you'd like to add more feedback on this feature, feel free to add your thoughts here and I would be happy to submit them to our developer team.
