Retail hardware, software, and Shopify Point of Sale
Tried every troubleshooting method that has worked in the past, this time the socket mobile refuses to connect to the shopify pos app and will not scan barcodes. I've tried disconnecting from bluetooth in ipad settings, I've restarted the ipad and scanner, I have also done a factory reset on the scanner. All methods that usually fix the problem have all failed. Resorting to ipad camera for scanning but it is very tedious and finicky. Please help!

I was able to reconnect my barcode scanner by a shopify support member using the following method:
Can anyone verify this as a permanent fix?

Had the same issue today and the FIX was:
1) Go to IPAD settings and select "Bluetooth" > Forget This Device "Socket CHS"
2) Go to the SHOPIFY APP select MORE > SET UP HARDWARE
3) Select BARCODE SCANNER then follow the instructions on screen until PAIR BARCODE SCANNER > VIEW AVAILABLE DEVICES
4) This is where I was previously stuck and barcode scanner won't connect. WAIT 30seconds before a loud BEEP and SOCKET SCANNER appeared as an option to select.
PROBLEM SOLVED
[I've never waited that long for a device to connect BUT it seems to be common with this system.]
Remember: *FORGET the scanner in ipad settings!* // *Wait bit longer than usual for connection*

Hello OP here, I'm so sorry this is happening to you! Right now we haven't had any issues recently, but one thing you can do is force close the shopify app to see if it will fix the problem. If not, check for shopify app updates or iPad updates.
If all else fails, use the iPad camera to scan barcodes as a last resort. You can do this by pressing the magnifying glass button that is top center of the pos screen, and on the right of the search bar there is a scan icon, press that and scan barcodes that way.
When you have time, completely disconnect socket mobile from the pos settings as well as in the iPad settings, then reconnect through the shopify pos.
Usually force closing the shopify app fixes most our issues now, but everyone once in awhile something weird happens and I have to go through some serious troubleshooting. Hopefully shopify's team can foolproof the softwhere to where it doesn't mess up as often.
Having same issues at multiple locations, and started at the same time today.
UPDATE: Barcode scanner still not connecting, but I have a temporary work around until it does.
Download the socket mobile app on your ipad. There is an option in the app to switch the barcode scanner to switch to type mode, when you do this is will actually type out the numbers or letters on the barcode. I've been using this by going to the search bar in shopify pos and scanning a barcode and it will now type the text of the barcode. Hope this helps some of you in the meantime.
Thanks for offering this option - unfortunately someone somewhere has messed up the system and nothing is working for our expensive wireless scanner. I already have issue with this scanner because we lose out on Google rankings by not being able to use a corded scanner. When we download the app and try to connect it, it says set up failed.
EDIT: In that app, I tried the troubleshooting. You need to go to settings on your ipad and under bluetooth 'forget' the devise, then go into the app and set it up. Even with that, I was not able to get the work around to function for us. I can connect to the app but can't scan anything in still.
@Shopify fix our scanner please!!!
Having the same issue, this is BS and I will have to find something more reliable to do what I need. I wasted months uploading everything onto my store and created barcodes to make it work properly. Then the scanner goes down during a rush and have to track what sells by taking pictures of every bar code. I can't have a business run on an unreliable program like this. I will loose my shirt. I think a refund and compensation is in order.

Mine started acting up as well. The only "FIX" I've been able to do is delete the app and start over with my reconnecting my devices! Had to do this EVERY DAY since Wednesday. Does Shopify have an ETA on this bug? It's quite annoying and time consuming!
It's funny that they haven't replied to anyone yet. This is BS.
I am having the same exact issue, trying everything you tried as well, mine also quit connecting March 1st.
I too have a problem connecting my scanner to Shopify. Everything was working fine until March 2nd when the scanner disconnected from the Shopify program. Tried everything that worked in the past to connect the scanner and no luck.
The scanner is connected to the iPad but will not connect to Shopify. The Shopify program recognizes the scanner, but it will not connect. Very frustrating.
Yes, that’s what mine is doing. I found that turning off my Bluetooth, deleting the app, reinstalling it and going through the ‘set up hardware’ has been the only way to reconnect it. What’s unfortunate is that I’ve had to do this each morning since it disconnect on 3/1.
Decided to try your method and it worked. Thank you for the suggestion.
I have been doing this and I now that won't even work. FML
I am having this problem intermittently mixed with situations where the scanner will connect to the tablet and Shopify POS...for about 1-2 minutes. Then it disconnects and reverts back to the issue of Shopify POS "finding" the scanner but not being able to connect (it just sits on the "Connecting..." page until the scanner times out/goes into sleep mode). The tablet and the Socket Mobile app both seem to connect as expected, so this issue appears to be directly tied to the POS app. The frustration of it all has me *this* close to throwing the barcode scanner out the window!
I will try uninstalling and reinstalling the POS app and see if that works...

We’ve been doing this too, has it been resolved for you now? Hoping our Saturday staff don’t have to handle this!
Same issue here all week. I will do the restart thing since its Saturday...as another alternative we have used the camera on the tablet. in the search hit the little barcode symbol and scan your barcode. Not the best, but better than nothing
We are also struggling here and have not had our scanner connected since Friday, 3/3. How do we get this fixed? I'm using a workaround where my ipad can scan the 1D barcodes, but it's a pita.
We are having the same issue. I noticed there haven't been any comments on this issue since March. Is there a fix for this issue yet?
Thanks. I look forward to hearing back from you. If it is fixed, I'd like to know what update and to which app fixed it.
Thanks.
Hi, I have this issue now as well. I didn’t have it before in March when other experienced it. Just over the past few days we have been experiencing it.
We disconnect reconnect it multiple times and then eventually after resetting it it comes back on and is fine for the rest of the day until the next morning. I have reported the bug in the app and messaged support but they have not been much help
I had a similar issue with my barcode scanner and Shopify POS before. It can be quite annoying when troubleshooting methods don't seem to work, especially when you rely on the scanner for smooth operations.
In situations like this, it might be worth considering alternative tools or approaches. One tool that you could try is Barcode Finder. It's an online resource that provides a comprehensive barcode database and useful information. It might offer some insights or tips that could help resolve your scanning problem. Hang in there, I know it can be tedious and finicky to resort to using the iPad camera for scanning.
The socket barcode scanners imo are junk. I don’t know why they won’t support a legitimate enterprise level scanner.

My Socket S700 [63511B] has been unable to connect to Shopify POS for about a week. It shows up in the available devices list on the "Pair barcode scanner" page, but none of the solutions listed in this thread work for me. I'd appreciate any other ideas.
This process has now worked for me:
PERFORMING BLUETOOTH CACHE CLEAR:
On the iPad device,
From the Home screen, and tap Settings.
Tap Bluetooth.
If the barcode scanner is listed under My devices section, tap the i icon next to the scanner.
Tap Forget This Device and confirm to forget the device.
Turn the Bluetooth switch off.
REMOVING THE SCANNER FROM THE POS APP:
At the bottom menu of the POS app, tap More (≡ icon).
From the left hand menu, tap Connectivity.
If the scanner is listed, tap the scanner and tap Forget scanner button. If not listed, proceed to force-close the app.
Force close the app. On an iOS device with Face ID: Swipe up from the bottom edge and pause in the centre of the screen. Then swipe right to find the POS app, then swipe up on it. On an iOS device with a Home button: Double-click the Home button. Then swipe right to find the POS app, then swipe up.
Shutdown the iOS device. On an iOS device with Face ID: from the Home screen, tap Settings. Tap General. Scroll down and tap Shut Down. On an iOS device with a Home button: Press and hold the power switch for a few seconds and shut down.
Restart the iPad and follow the usual hardware connection process. This time, on selecting the scanner in the "Available devices" window, the scanner connects.
