Breaking down Sales reports

We run a clothing retail store and when it comes to the end of a season and we're out and about buying for the next it would be really good to be able to burrow down a bit more into specific trends over the season. Rather than just what brands have performed well it would be helpful to see which product types have been best (shirt or outerwear for example) or which colours have been the best.

Is this kind of reporting or analytics available through the Shopify app or is their a bolt on app that can do this?

Hey, there.

Dallas here from the Shopify Social Care team. That is a great question and I'm so happy to say I have a great answer for you.

In the Shopify Store Admin, we have a section called Analytics. Once you go under Analytics you'll see another button that says Reports and that is where you want to go. Under Reports, there are a bunch of.. well... reports that will help give a deeper insight into your business and how it has been performing.

Be the sounds of it the one that you're going to need is Sales by Product.

It allows you to filter products if you need to or just have a general outline of how the products in your store are (or have been) doing.

There are some other great reports that you might want to take a look at as they may help you out even further with your buying process for next season. As well reports can give you a great view of your customers so that you a better target your marketing efforts as time goes on.

Thanks - that does give us a good overview of what product has performed well, but i'm looking more specifically for tags such as knitwear, t-shirts or outerwear, can you drill down too those using filters?

I see what you mean. There isn't actually a filter for that in Shopify directly. However, there is an app that should be able to help you with that. 

We allow for custom reports, but the app Better Reports can go into further detail.

For example, they can help you create reports for the following parameters:

-Monthly sales per tag

-Overall sales per tag

-Order per tag

And many more!
