We are accepting payments externally (using a Clover device). Our goal is to automatically mark an order as paid in Shopify POS if our external payment is successful. Can this be done?

Have you tried setting up a custom payment type in Shopify POS?

 

In the Shopify POS App:

Go to Settings > Payment Types (under Checkout) > Add Custom Payment Type

 

You can name this payment type "Clover" or anything that works for you.

If this payment type is used at checkout, Shopify POS will automatically mark your order as paid.

Also there won't be a field to type the credit/debit card info.

 

 

Note: Shopify POS will not verify whether the transaction was successful or not, as you are using an external device.

So make sure you process the payment on your Clover device first to make sure that it went through and THEN click on the payment option that you created to automatically submit the paid order.

I have a similar question.  I have setup a Custom payment type.  When a user selects the payment type, in web (not in POS), the order is NOT marked as paid.  I wouldn't expect the order to be marked as paid as manual payment could be paid with Purchase Order, etc.

 

Now, after we receive the payment through outside means, how do I mark the order as PAID using the POS UI?  I know in the admin UI we can mark the order as paid.  But how to do it using the POS UI?

OK, I totally misunderstood the reply from HFR.

I now understand that you can have custom payment as an option in the POS app.  I thought HFR was talking about custom payment in the online app.

In any case, for me, when I try to use a custom payment type for an ONLINE order using the POS app, I get a "Payment Declined" error. -- which is weird as Shopify shoudnl't be 'declining' any custom payment types.
