Card reader doesn't recover from failed payment

Hi we're having an issue with our card reader that has started in the last two weeks (we've only been using it for six weeks).

We have the shopify Tap, Chip, and Swipe card reader. If a customer payment fails for some reason the card reader does not recover from this failure and allow another attempt. Going back to the cart and pressing checkout causes the payment amount to appear briefly on the display before disappearing. If a card is inserted or presented, nothing happens. We have to restart the reader in order to make a second attempt at payment. This is obviously unacceptable as it can take a couple of minutes for the card reader to restart. There is also no feedback for the customer to assure them that the payment didn't go through.

Is anybody else having these issues?
