Retail hardware, software, and Shopify Point of Sale
I have been going crazy trying to find gift card balances for my customers when they come into the store. It took me forever to find the instructions for this.
The instructions say:
This makes ZERO sense and is problematic for so many reasons. The customer you are looking up is not the person that purchased the gift card. Gift cards are GIFTED to another person.
Here are some of the problems with this feature as it is implemented.
USE CASE: As a customer with a gift card I need the cashier to be able to check my gift card balance while I am shopping in store.
USE CASE: As a cashier I need to be able to check a gift card balance in the Shopify POS for a customer who is shopping in store, without having to get my manager to look up the balance.
@bloodyrosebtq sadly this is a current limitation of Shopifys native gift card app.
That said, if you get a third party app you will have access to this info pretty easily.
I own iziGift. This is something we recently built in for this very reason. All you need to do is:
Also, the app will give you the ability to create a gift card balance check page so your customers can easily search for their gift card numbers on their own.
Lastly, our app is free for your first $200 of gift card sales per month so depending on the amount you sell this may not cost you anything additional.
Hope that help and please let me know if you have additional questions.
Thanks,
Henry
Yeah... I understand it is a limitation. That's why I wrote this up.
I have a difficult time paying for something that should be a feature provided by Shopify. The cost to get all these plug-ins to accomplish tasks that the app used to do, or can easily be coded to do, is stupid.
Hey Shopify, how are we not able to check gift card balances on the POS app yet? My employees don't have access to admin, so the only way to check is to "checkout" and scan the card, which comes with the risk of accidental charges. Please add this!!!
It seems like we can scan the gift card QR code by tapping the scan icon in the home screen of POS :
After scanning the QR code, the gift card balance and expiry / disabled date will appear.
Hope this can help!
