Configuration for Lending Items

My store will have some items that are available for sale, but also for members to borrow and use inside the store. (Our used product inventory and lending inventory of games and books will be the same.)

Is there a way to mark a particular unit of inventory (not product) as unavailable for sale? I was wondering if it might, for instance, be possible to scan it into a different location where items can be listed, but not available for sale.
