Hi all - i just wanted to know has anyone successfully managed to get the customer view to stay connected for more than 20 minutes without having to reconnect it or go through the whole pairing again? Mine connects in fine then suddenly drops even if the IPad or Tablet do not lock themselves. Its highly frustrating after investing in an Android tablet purely for this app.

Oh no!   I was just looking at getting that app...  I dont have your answer but would you mind telling me more about how you're integrating it?  I understand that it shows the customer the sale progress in real time but have you found any other apps that are integrated with it?  Perhaps a loyalty program, or customer feedback form?

We simply quit trying to use it.  It wouldn't connect at all sometimes and would disconnect or get stuck / freeze.  We were told it may need updates for the recently released Shopify upgrade.

I've tested this on various tablets, and I've found that the app connection is often cut off in the same way.

The only way to solve this problem is to keep the screen display on all the time without putting the iPad and Android devices to sleep.
But even then, sometimes customer-view closes suddenly.

And some of the features listed here are not working either.

Also, there are a lot of errors in the POS app, and it doesn't seem to be very proactive in developing it for face-to-face sales in general.

However, offline is still an important sales channel, and I wish Shopify the best of luck.

Our ipad and android are both set to never sleep.  Customer view still stops / hangs multiple times a day.  We turned off the Android and customer view and have stopped trying to get it to work.  Until someone else develops a better app, we won't have a customer view.  This is a sad reality.  All I want it the customer to see what's on the register side.  We don't any any fancy functions for emailing the receipt etc.  Just show the receipt or at a minimum the totals like an old fashioned register.  It should be extremely simple.  I've since been told the customer view app has not been verified to work with the upgraded / newest release of Shopify POS.  This is the problem with software that allows apps / functions to be developed outside of the primary group.  There's no one to respond to issues with the app.  Other than that, we have been able to get Shopify POS to do what we need (with some caveats).

We started using it today, (with some trepidation) as we found had to keep pairing.

To stop that had to Turn off Apple Lock screen on both IPAD and the Android tablet (also screen blank is turned off).

The Shopify Lock is still active.  So far it has been working for about 4 hours without requiring a re-sync.  So fingers crossed.

The in ability to have the Apple Lock work is a major security issue for us. The POS may be unattended for periods, at least the Shopify App is locked so Cash drawer can't be opened without the PIN.

In addition not having screen blank on the Customer view terminal means burn in.

 

Definitely room for improvement.

No. Does anybody know if there is some other work around? Maybe use another service?

Customer View is particularly important now when we are trying to do touchless checkouts. It is unwieldy to turn the screen over and scroll through the purchases that a customer might have made. Also it is not easy to see from their distance.

The POS that Square has (released maybe around two years ago) is so elegant when it comes to customer view. We were hoping that with the new upgrade of what $85 /month Shopify would have thought about this feature.

According to Google Apps store, the last time Customer View was updated by Shopify was April 2019. Clearly, they do not see this as a priority. Wish developers talked more with people who use products in the real world.

It is still not improving.
I think the percentage of physical store sales is small in the whole Shopify.
It seems that we have to wait patiently for improvements.

For us it’s working ok.

We setup the iPad and Tablet to not turn off screen automatically, then it’s work all day. When it is disconnected, then we close Shopify POS in the iPad, Open it again, enter to Customer View configuration and it Pair again automatically most of the time.

it’s not big issue now, but we don’t know how much time the tablet screen will work staying always on.

"wait patiently".  Um, over two years is being VERY patient.  It's never worked for us more than an hour.  Then it freezes up.  Sometime it won't even pair.

PLEASE SOMEONE DEVELOP A WORKING - BETTER APP FOR THIS.

Okay. I jumped the gun and bought a Samsung Galaxy Tablet A8 from Best Buy since it was on sale $119. I figured I'd try it since Best Buy has a pretty good policy. So far this has been working for us (minus the latter part of the day where it froze). 

 

I did the trick where you just ensure both your iPad and Tablet stay away and not sleep. We are only open for 5 hours of the day, so it did work for like 4.5 hours. 

There is also a bug in the UI where it would you show you it's discounted, but not really. 

Really wish Shopify would work on improving this ASAP.

(minus the latter part of the day where it froze).   This is exactly the problem.  It freezes up after some amount of time.  Sometimes a very short time.  No way to get around that this is a very poorly written application.  Obviously, Shopify doesn't care.  Our business is almost 100% in person brick and mortar.  If someone can provide details for it working a full business day without hanging, I'd like to know exactly what tablet you use.  I'd buy the one keversmcgee  mentioned except he also mentions the app still freezes.  What do you do if it freezes and a customer is standing there?  We ended up putting the I-pad on a spinning platform so the checkout person can spin it around to show the customer.  A bad work-around to a software issue for a package we pay over $1000/year for now.

We using a Fire HD 8 Plus tablet.
It rarely freezes.

I also recommend the Wireless Charging Dock.

You can use it with the screen always on, and bearing with ShopifyPOS is quicker since there is no charging cable.

It doesn't support Google Play by default, so you'll have to search for a way to install it.

We use Lenovo Tab M7. It's working almost all day, but lately it's losing the battery charge, then it's turn off sometimes. Even when it's pluged in to the charger.

We are using the Lenovo Smart Tab M8 for Customer View. The app is working well for us, however we would like to see a few improvements:

1) In landscape mode, we are unable to display "Welcome to Philadelphia" as the character count on Philadelphia is apparently too long and it separates the word onto two lines when there is adequate space on the screen. The word "Philadelphia" shows on one line in portrait mode, but not in landscape mode which is odd as there is more room horizontally in landscape. Philadelphia is 12 characters long.

2) When there's a Shopify POS for iPad update on the App Store, the Customer View for Android will disconnect which requires reconnection after the update. It would be nice to pair the two devices in another manner such as Bluetooth or WiFi, rather than QR Code.

3) The Lenovo tablet only charges when connected to the smart dock in Landscape orientation, so we are unable to display our name "Philadelphia" in Portrait orientation while keeping the device charging.
