Retail hardware, software, and Shopify Point of Sale
What the hell is with this new "Turn to Customer for Receipt Selection" mandatory screen?
I'm Shopify Pro.
This adds yet ANOTHER screen I have to bypass in order to simply process an in-person transaction. I run a busy retail store and Shopify POS is holding up my register.
Even when I select the automatically print receipt option under settings, it requires me to pass it to the customer unless i select Skip, which is just another step I have to go through.
HOW do i kill this?
It would be really good if every update you make didn't make it more difficult for me to make simple transactions.

Hey folks, I believe I found a setting to disable this function. In Shopify admin, go to Settings under the the Point of Sale tab. Select "Customer receipt selection" and click the toggle. I've done one transaction since changing this setting and the receipt selection screen didn't come up, so hopefully it's gone for good.
I came here to complain about this as well. Shopify POS is already slower than other POS systems. We need to streamline things, not add unnecessary steps!
We are having the same issue. Started today and only on one of my till points. Obviously designed for retail situation but by someone who has never worked in a busy retail environment.

AWESOME!!! It worked!!
Thanks for the reply, appreciated. Unfortunately that does nothing for me, I'm still having that issue even after quitting and restarting the app... I keep getting this stupid screen.
Shopify, you need an option to kill this, NOW.
Have you rebooted the POS app since changing the setting? I have confirmation now from 4 locations that the new screens are gone.
I stand corrected, this solution actually started working after leaving the POS alone for a bit. I'm very grateful for your reply, thank you!
@sucralose 👏 TOP MARKS for owning it, replying AND reconfirming

Glad I could help! And I'm also glad I don't have to deal with it anymore haha. I can absolutely guarantee no one asked for this feature. Get it together, Shopify!
I too came here to compalin about this. A terrible function for busy retail stores. But on some investigation I found the solution, as already detailed in the replies on this thread. This is not a function that I or any busy retail store wants automatically turned on.
SHOPIFY: In addition to my OP, let me just give you an example.
One day this past week we did 369 transactions in a 6-hour period, with a customer line most of that time. That works out to roughly one transaction per minute on one "terminal"... time is effing critical. there's already enough options to go through that can't be defaulted and skipped, now you've added another one. Seconds are critical, get rid of all this crap. I want to select checkout, payment method and paid and have a receipt print out. is that so frigging much to ask? I don't want to screw around letting customers fiddle their email address into an ipad with a line behind them. I want to spit out a receipt and go to the next customer.
A meta issue here is no version freezing, or informed opt-in.
This is the type of thing merchants need to make feature requests, and report dissatisfaction, about by contacting shopify support directly

Not whether a change will be made because shopify will do what shopify does but merchants are forced to it in AND in the middle of a business week.
Which is so laughably bizarre, it's like when they force change the admin/dashboards the week of black friday.
Shopify push changes to time sensitive processes and make merchants be automatically opted-into it completely uninformed.
Lack of: proper forewarning, pinned forum comment or announcement thread , or a help link in the UI itself, this isn't even showing in the changelog.
To be fair shopify's feature announcements and onboarding have massively improved over the years but these types of rollouts undo that hard earned goodwill so fast.

agreed 100%... the automatic opt-in of these features is really disruptive. and the timing is always terrible.
appreciate your thoughts and assistance.
So bloody annoying!!! Every update seems to add another step to making a simple sale.
