Retail hardware, software, and Shopify Point of Sale
Hi all, my store has been up and running for about a year and has never experienced this problem.
Customers using PayPal at checkout have been applying their discount codes however are getting charged the full price when the transaction is completing. As I said, we previously never had this issue with PayPal (or any other payment method previously) and no changes have been made recently to this.
I have seen similar threads to disable dynamic checkouts. As this was never a problem previously, has there been any new changes or updates to how this works?
Just wondering if anyone can assist us with this as its already affected many of our customers in the past few days.

This is an accepted solution.
Discounts will apply to the order if the customer makes it to the checkout and either manually applies the discount code or it automatically applies.
Where discounts don't apply is if the customer skips the checkout process and goes straight to Paypal to complete the purchase. This happens when using dynamic checkout buttons (buy now) buttons, or if a customer selects the accelerated checkout button at the top of the first page of the checkout.
If you're still having trouble with discounts applying, then I'd recommend contacting Shopify Support directly as they can provide account specific assistance.

Hi, I don’t know the answer to this, but it has happened twice this week with customers in my store also. I called PayPal and got a very dismissive person who was quite patronising, telling me to contact their technical team to ‘walk through setting up PayPal payments’ on my store. It’s incredibly frustrating, as PayPal don’t refund the merchant fees, and I have now had a customer make a case through PayPal. I have also been running my online store for more than a year and never encountered this issue until now. So it’s definitely a recent problem with PayPal. I hope they fix it soon!
We are also having this issue with multiple customers over the last few days. We have the Paypal in cart button hidden so the customers are going through normal checkout and using paypal to pay at the end.
I have tested the checkout process myself and can't replicate this issue so it seems maybe a glitch that is happening to some but not everyone.
Please can someone address this?
This is still affecting my store - every PayPal transaction seems to accept the discount code on checkout but then will process the full cost without discount applied. Does anyone have a solution for this?
Unfortunately I have found no solution other than to deactivate PayPal payments. It’s happened three times this week and cost my business in merchant fees each time. So until PayPal do something about this, I’m not using their services.
Is the Paypal error only with discount codes or also automatic discounts?
The error was affecting both types of discount codes.
It also seems to have been resolved by PayPal as all orders have been processing the codes as usual for about a week now.
Is anyone still experiencing issues with this? It's still happening for us. Customers will apply a free delivery code, and end up paying the delivery charge after the order goes through with PayPal Express Checkout
