Retail hardware, software, and Shopify Point of Sale
As every retailer can attest - there are many times when we accept a return that falls outside of our policy and instead of issuing a refund, we want to issue a store credit. Please consider adding back in to the POS (and admin) the option to issue store credit attached to a client account. Note - gift cards are NOT a suitable replacement for this. Given the challenges with how we are forced to continually change the 'payment types accepted' on the POS terminal a gift card is not a good way to process this nor does it make a good way to track credits that are issued for accounting purposes.

I can definitely see how beneficial it would be to allow you to issue store credit from the Shopify POS application to a specific customer account. I am going to provide this as a suggestion to our developers to hopefully include this feature in the future. j’ai pour ma part le même problème quand une cliente est à la caisse retail et veux faire un retour notre politique est d’emettre un crédit boutique ce que nous pouvions faire dans Lightspeed mais que nous ne pouvons pas dans Shopify POS et la solution de carte cadeau ne fonctionne pas pour la retraçabilité comptable

I would love this option, especially as a gift card. It would be great to tie the gift card to an account as credit. If a customer bought a GC, they shouldn't have to add the code every time they want to use it, especially if it's a large gift card for small purchases (we are using GC for farm produce).
We just launched an app that may help you solve this functionality. It lets you have customers and you can store credit on their account, accumulate charges on their account, and allow them to pay it off later. Check it out, let me know what you think. Also integrates with Quickbooks.

If it's free and it doesn't break our store, we are all for it! My guess is it's not free. We are looking for a Shopify coded solution that doesn't cost extra. This is standard in POS systems and we are encouraging Shopify to build the POS up to what is standard in the industry. We still don't have case breaks - a basic POS system function. While I wish all app developers the best of luck - things that should be standard in a system are not things we are willing to continuously pay over and over for apps. For stores that are willing to pay for these things, I hope your solution works well for them. @Shopify we need this coded standard though please!
