Gift Card Issue

After upgrading to the newest version of the Shopify POS app and noticed that the gift card option is no longer working as expected. When selling a gift card, the system isn’t prompting the cashier to scan a gift card. The gift card information only shows up on the receipt, but we want to be able to hand the customer a gift card with the balance.

 

Can you please provide us with troubleshooting steps or help us update our system so that we can scan physical gift cards to provide to the customer?

I am also having this issue- extremely frustrating and not a great customer experience. As a clothing & gift store, I need to be able to wrap a physical gift card. Need resolution ASAP Shopify!

We are having the same issue with the system not letting us scan the gift card in order to sell it.  Have you found an answer?

Have you heard of a solution? We went back to the old one and it still works. so until it is disabled or they find a solution we will have 2 iPads set up one with old software and 1 with the new.

Yes we found an answer. Go on iPad POS app into register settings, payment settings, click gift card and make sure “accept physical gift card”’is selected. I got this answer from help line but they just assumed I clicked the button by accident myself (nope). I think it was to do with the update.

Yes!  Thank you for this information - it turned off on the POS at both our shops without us doing anything other than the update. So frustrating, but we appreciate the help.

Hello, I was wondering if you were able to help me with an gift card issue. I am trying to send my customer a gift card with no charge and I do not have the “issue gift card” option. Would you know how I can send a gift card??

I have done this before. Ring it up like a customer is purchasing a gift card and when you get to payment say store credit or cash.

This happens frequently on updates. Shopify tents to do updates and the setting reset to default.

There is an "issue gift card" option on the Shopify app (not the POS app). It's under Products - Gift Cards.

It still sends the gift card automatically to the original purchaser if your system has their cell number or email.

That's if you're doing a return, but you can issue the card as a stand alone transaction.

@HKJ As a retail business 99% of our transactions go through the POS. The POS has to be able to run all situations through it. Especially when the customer is standing in front of you. And this always seems to happen when multiple customers want to check out.

There is an option buried in the system to disable the notification of the purchaser. But this should either be upfront or automatically disabled if a gift receipt is used.
