Retail hardware, software, and Shopify Point of Sale
Hi, I'm going to be at a festival in about four months and I would like to let people use a QR code to purchase a few of my products I'll have on hand (not everything in the online store). Then I would like to allow folks to walk up to pick up their order. The catch is that I don't want these products to be available on the general online store. I want these to be exclusive to the POS channel or somehow limit visibility to only people at the festival.
When I set up the product right now and limit the sales channel to POS, the QR codes from ShopCodes does not work. I get a page not found error.
Is there a way to do what I'm asking, or do I have to make the product available on the online store visible to anyone, even those who don't have the QR code at the festival?
Thanks,
The "online store" sales channel refers to your website. So when you are making it not available to that channel it is removing it from the website which removes the product URL, preventing it from being purchased.
If you were to use a on site POS, you can let clients check out with that but then that renders the QR code useless.
One thing that is new to Shopify is LinkPop. It lets you have your own page with products. It is like linktree. You can limit products only to this channel. The downside is you cannot have individual product page links. So each product is on the home page to your linkpop, so all QR codes will go to the same link if that makes sense. You can see my demo account here:

Thank you so much for the reply.
In regards to this statement, "If you were to use a on site POS, you can let clients check out with that but then that renders the QR code useless" . A QR code in this situation is exactly what I want. The convention is very large and people will be moving about from location to location. If I can get them to order my product from a QR code sitting on a table in another part of the building, then that's a HUGE advantage for me. All they have to do is come to my table to pick up their order. This is also good for the customer because they don't have to stand in line to pay for what they want. They can just use the QR code to get what they want with no hassle.
But it sounds like the only way to make this happen is if I make the product available for purchase on the website for anyone at the convention or not at the convention to purchase.
So by POS I imagine you mean you have a separate POS device (or app on phone) that lets users pay for the product? This POS device would be like your "cash register" so only you would have it. I do not belive there is a way for others to access your POS version of your site. So this only would work at your table on YOUR device. So they'd have to be there in the first place to purchase which is why I said the QR code would not work as you intended.
You can use the linkpop tool I shared, and that lets you not have to have the product on your regular site. You can either have instructions on your QR code card, or you can have a link on your linkpop page that says "view instructions" or you may even be able to type them out as a bio above the link. You can also include instructions in the product details, which will appear when they select that product.
So with linkpop.
Print QR codes leading to LinkPop page. Customers can see your products and purchase from there (even if they are not on your regular website)
They then can see instructions (however you decide to do it) letting them know to go find you to get their order.
Linktree may be another alternative to have qr codes per product but I have not setup a demo, or used it rather at all.
If you go the website route, there are ways to hide the product on your navigation and things like that to make it less likely for someone to randomly stumble on it viewing online.
I think the best option will be to make the product visible on the website. Then create a location for the convention. Only have inventory available for the Convention location and enable local pick-up. That way Shopify will only allow for the local pick-up option. If someone tries to order and have the items shipped, they will not have that option. I think that's the best solution so far.
Hi, you can do this with Checkout Links! Its a very versatile app when it comes to creating payment links, landing pages, QR codes and allowing you to sell anywhere you want with Shopify.
You can create a checkout link straight to the checkout and also add discounts and other properties if you want. Also please try the Cart and Landing Pages which are great.
And if you want to hide the products on your store just activate them on the Checkout Links Sales Channel - easy as that!
You can download it here: https://apps.shopify.com/checkoutlinks
