How to remove shipping requirements for in-person sales on POS?

We have an online Shopify shop with shipping options. But when someone is sitting in my living room lookingat a product and wants to buy it on the spot, no shipping is required and physical address info should not be required to take an order. I want the option as the Shopify POS user / store owner to indicate that no shipping is required and thus the physical address fields should not be required.

Is this fairly obvious (I would think) functionality there somewhere? I would have the same need were I selling at a table somewhere. Accepting an order to later mail it to the customer's physical address is NOT something I need.

I tried creating a no shipping discount code but even when entering that in checkout Shopify STILL requires a physical shipping address.

Maybe Shopify POS is not the answer here. If that's the case, what should I use? Each time I've tried to take an order like this I've ended up making it a custom order and typing in the amount, so I've had to go back in and manually adjust inventory on the product they bought.

Hi there, @smjacoby123!

Thank you for your post, I'm happy to help.

Are you using the Shopify POS app? The app is available to download from the Apple App Store and the Google Play store, and can be used on a smartphone or a tablet. When you use this app, you don't have to enter a shipping address, since as you mentioned, the Shopify POS system is mostly used for in person sales.

I have attached a screen recording of me completing a checkout using my Shopify POS app. I have the option of sending a receipt via email or text, or adding a customer to the order, but shipping is not required.

If you're new to Shopify POS, I recommend checking out this page which has more information on all the features included with the system. You can also read over our POS help documents which includes extra details about Shopify POS, as well as answers a lot of common questions.

I hope this information helps, and please let me know if you have any further questions or concerns!

Yes, thank you, I get it now. I was using the "Shop" tile to find the product and then get it into the cart but I now realize that the starting point has to be the search bar. Using the Shop tile runs the transaction through the normal shop checkout process which requires shipping (and needs to).

Your video began with something already in the cart, so if using the search bar really is the key, it would have been better to include product selection.

Hey, @smjacoby123!

Thank you for getting back to me. That definitely makes sense, I should've started the video earlier. I've included a couple more videos here to show the whole process of actually adding products to the cart and then completing the checkout (one with searching for and adding a product that already exists, and one with adding a custom sale). With both of these methods I don't need to enter in a customer. If there's another method you ran into where this was required (if you could share a screenshot of the "Shop" tile you were utilizing), please let me know and I'd be happy to take another look.

I hope this helps to clarify things, and please let me know if you still have questions. Thank you for working with me on this!
