How to start with barcodes for handmade products?

I'd like to add barcodes to my hand made products to streamline checkout. We also have products with existing barcodes. Are there any articles on how to get started? 

The one thing I know is that I'd like to be able to print barcodes with product name and price on Avery 5167 labels.

I need to know everything- the best hardware setups, best ways to generate bar codes, best ways to print them, integrating them in to POS, all of it. Thanks!
