Importing Amazon Products with Over 100 Variants (3,00,000+ Products) – Best Approach?

Hi Community,

We’re in the process of migrating a large catalog (over 3,00,000 products) from Amazon to Shopify. Many of these products, like this example, have more than 100 variants and more than 3 options, which exceeds Shopify’s native limit.

We’re looking for the best way to handle this at scale. Specifically:

  1. What are the most reliable apps or tools to bypass the 100-variant and 3-option limits during import?

  2. Is there any way to bulk import such products with extended variant structures?

  3. Would splitting these into multiple products (e.g., based on size or color) be the only practical solution, or are there smarter ways using metafields or custom apps?

  4. Has anyone successfully handled a similar high-volume migration from Amazon? If yes, what worked best for you?

Any guidance, recommendations, or real-world experiences would be really helpful!

Thanks in advance.

Thanks and Regards,
Yatrik Kubadia

Hey Yatrik,

I don't have an exact answer for you but here's a few things to keep in mind:

  • Shopify has a limit once you hit 50,000 variants. After you 50,000 variants, you can only has 1,000 new variants to the store per day. This limit might not make it feasible to import all products in a reasonable amount of time. I think if the store is on Shopify Plus though they can remove or change this limit
  • The 3 options per product is fixed in Shopify and can't be extended without an app
  • The 100 variants per product limit is suppose to change at some point up to 2048. I don't know the timeline for this though, it was announced last year but besides a few stores that are beta testing it, most stores still don't have access to it

I don't have a specific app to recommend for these, there's several 'product options' apps on the Shopify App store that might get you around the 3 options/100 variant limit that you could check out.
