Retail hardware, software, and Shopify Point of Sale
Hello, I'm looking to fully migrate from QuickBooks POS V10 that we use for our retail-only store to Shopify to use for retail and online selling. Once we migrate from QuickBooks POS V10 to Shopify, we will abandon QuickBooks POS - so I will not need two-way integration - just the one-time move. I've posted a "job" in the Experts site. When I search the App Store, I only find apps that want to sync both ways, etc. I simply want to move our inventory and our customers into Shopify. I can leave QBPOS running for Sales history purposes, etc.
Any suggestions? Anyone done this successfully?
Any luck with this? I am in the same situation and struggling to figure out how to take my brick and mortar Quickbooks POS inventory and begin an online store as well as run the storefront with Shopify. Like you, the goal is to drop Quickbooks and use Shopify exclusively. The store's inventory is extensive so I am hoping there is a simple way to accomplish this but can't for the life of me find anywhere online that someone has spelled it out. Help?
I have made the switch. You have three things to move over: customers, products, sales history. The first two can be moved, the latter can't easily. For both customers and products, go to File-->Utilities-->Export customers. Export all fields and then delete the columns you won't be importing. Shopify has good documentation for importing using CSVs so you can view https://help.shopify.com/en/manual/products/import-export/import-products as a start. When you rename your fields, you'll follow this guide. The most important field you'll have to add is "handle". Since I work with the csv file in excel, though the same or similar would apply in Google Sheets, I've chosen to simply take the product name (title) and replace the spaces with dashes. Therefore, I make a new column and use =CONCATENATE(@title, " ", "-") as the formula.
Once you're ready to import, you go to Products. Toward the top of the screen there is a dropdown option for "Import". Follow the prompts.
1. Shopify has a 100 variant limit per product. So if you have products that have more than 100 variants, you'll have to decide how to break them down into multiple products with fewer variants.
2. If you have a product with no product options, you can NOT leave option1 name and option1 value columns blank. Instead, you must put the product's title into both of those coliumns otherwise you'll get an error.
3. The columns' order doesn't seem to matter, but...
4. If while working with the CSV you needed to sort the products, make sure that before you do the import, you sort again by handle. If there's--as an example--product1handle on row 2 (row 1 are your headers), then product30handle on row 3, then again product1handle on row 4, it throws the importer off. All pf product1handle should be on consecutive rows.
This is off the top of ym head. I'm sure other people will be able to add.
@GinaBolt You need to be careful if you have items in your POS with the same sku that is already in Shopify and you try to do a import of the POS item into Shopify, you may override and change your preexisting Shopify item. I would watch that really closely and just upload 1 item then go in and check it to see what happened.
If your POS items have different sku and name then you will probably be fine to just upload them. You can mark them as sales channel POS so they show up in the POS and mark the others as only Online, this way some show up only online and some show up only on POS.....of course you can also mark some products with both so that they show up online and pos.
If there is no reason too have the same item with two separate entries then I'd just merge them and use the same item for online and POS. I dont know your business, but we enter in around 5000 sku's per year, I would hate to do double work by entering the same item with separate online and pos versions....double work and also more likely to have admin errors when trying to manage inventory......but you know what you can/cant do with your business.
Is shopify POS internet dependent? Can you still operate when internet fail?
For those who's in the same situation, we offer data migration from softwares like Quickbooks POS to Shopify via CSV file migration. On your own, you can simply export data in your Quickbooks POS into CVS files and than import to your newly created Shopify store. Or if you're too busy to take care of these, just contact us for a custom work.
could you contact me regarding this service. We have an older version of qb pos and have done one migration during quarantine went back to QB instead of keeping up Shopify. I want to make the switch to just Shopify. The problem we are running into is it taking inventory in Shopify and changing to the words or descriptions in qb. We could really use some help. Thank you
