Multi-Location Inventory Management for Online Orders

Hi,

We need some help with managing our inventory across two physical locations for our e-commerce store.

Currently, we have inventory set up so that both locations can fulfill online orders. Here's an example scenario that we're trying to address:

  • Location 1 (default stock) has 3 units of Product A.
  • Location 2 has 4 units of Product A.
  • A customer places an online order for 5 units of Product A.

In this case, 3 units would be fulfilled from Location 1, and the remaining 2 units would need to be fulfilled from Location 2.

Could you advise on how we can set up a system or notification that will alert the shop manager at Location 2 to remove the 2 units from their shelves when such an order is placed?

We're looking to ensure accurate stock levels and smooth order fulfillment between the two locations.

Thanks

@flwtls  Hey To manage inventory across two locations and ensure smooth order fulfillment, you can use Shopify's multi-location inventory feature. First, make sure your store is set up for multi-location inventory management in the settings. To notify Location 2 when they need to fulfill part of an order, you can use apps like "Stocky" or "Inventory Planner." These apps can send notifications when inventory needs to be shipped from different locations. You might also consider using Shopify Flow (if your plan includes it) to automate these notifications. This setup will help keep your stock levels accurate and make order processing easier.

Is the issue that what it's doing currently is fulfilling all 5 from location 1 and then showing an error message that there isn't enough inventory to fulfill the order? The way I've handled this in the past is with a flow that automatically detects this and moves the extra 2 items to a second fulfillment on the order from location 2.
