New POS is very glitchy

We have used a Star micronics mpop with ipad and Shopify POS for about 3 years, mostly glitch free. The new POS is nearly impossible. After unlocking the screen, most times you can't scan an item for the POS to just find it. You tap the search bar, scan the product, a bunch of random products are found, delete the last digit from the barcode, then your product magically appears!! You then have to select it by tapping on it, go into it to select the variant if need be, then add it to cart. Why can't we just scan the barcode as previously????
