Physical Gift Cards - Selling custom amounts on POS

I just made an order for physical gift cards from Shopify, and I am finding the documentation and user interface less than transparent.

 

My first question: How do I sell a custom physcal gift card from the POS app, so it issues the gift card in the chosen amount, links it to the code on the physical card, and associates it with the customer?

 

(This seems like the primary use case of physical cards, so I'm surprised I can't find a simple way to do this.)

Please no responses suggesting apps. If a fairly technical user can't do this out of the box, the gift card functionality isn't a minimum viable product let alone competetive.

This is an accepted solution.

If you've not already got this working, one thing to maybe check (in the POS app) is under Settings/Gift Cards that you have "Issue digital or physical gift cards" checked. If you don't have this selected, then POS will default to a digital gift card and generate its own code automatically.

When you tap "Add Gift Card" you'll be prompted for physical or virtual.
Tap physical. Camera opens in app and you scan the QR code. I don't recall
whether you're prompted to input the amount at this point or a couple of
steps ago. But when you're prompted to select the amount, it will show you
all the amounts you've set up for the gift card "product" in Admin.
Additionally, if you scroll all the way to the bottom of the list of
amounts, you can tap "Custom Amount" and type in the amount of your
choosing.

I just tried this. I was never prompted to scan a gift card, input the code, or add an email address. The POS let me complete the sale with no gift card associated.

Ok So this response Didn't solve the problem.

We did however find the solution.

We are running shopify on an IPAD, we went through all of the above steps, Over and over!!!

We were never able to locate/find the option mentioned  "physical or digital" .

So we finally logged in to the admin account through our phone, and then were able to see the option. Now the pos on the ipad is working. Again if you're not seeing the option try logging in via your phone. I hope this helps someone else not waste the time we did trying to solve this.
